It was just last year that Karan Johar found himself in the eye of the storm during the nepotism debate. The conversation was resurrected following the shocking death of Sushant Singh Rajput and Karan soon found himself at the receiving end of a lot of criticism and trolling from netizens. In fact, there arrived a point when the filmmaker literally stepped down from the MAMI board (Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image) during the culmination of the nepotism debate.
During the same time, he also distanced himself from social media quoting all the hatred and negativity as the reason behind the same. Just last month, Karan also made an announcement about launching three newcomers (read, outsiders) in the industry which was being perceived as an act of redemption from the filmmaker. Sadly, it didn’t last long and the facade came crumbling down with the announcement of Shanaya Kapoor’s big debut yesterday.
For the unversed, he took to social media yesterday and made the announcement of signing Shanaya with the brand new Dharma Cornerstone Agency. He also posted a video montage and a carousel of the actress along with it. Soon enough, the star kid was trending on Twitter as tweets about supporting her ‘talent’ started doing rounds. However, the netizens were not having it and called it a ‘PR’ exercise. Following that, the trolls took over and started calling out Karan Johar for returning to his old ways and opening an entire agency just to launch a star kid.
Earlier, Shanaya did a cameo for Karan’s Netflix show, The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. Everyone is now talking about how it was a ploy to create some buzz and then eventually launch her sans much resistance. However, it just feels too soon to be going back into that zone right now. The nepotism debate has hardly died and no one is really in the mood of entertaining star kids as of now. The netizens are furious, to say the least, and here’s how they are reacting to Shanaya’s big Bollywood launch:
Well KJo, kuch toh log kahenge!
