I remember a school assignment from my childhood where we were asked to write a paragraph on our favourite TV serial. I was so confused between Son Pari and Shaka Laka Boom Boom but went ahead with the latter. A bunch of crazy kids, a secret magic pencil and no evil queen, could a kid ask for more?

My favourite character, like most girls my age then, was not Sanju but Karuna, the pretty and smart friend who always had Sanju’s back. So much that I started wearing hairbands because of her. What a dork!

The show aired in 2000. Today 18 years later, it’s Karuna aka Hansika Motwani’s 27th birthday, and damn, we feel so old! Apart from SLBB, Hansika appeared as a child artiste in Hrithik Roshan’s Koi… Mil Gaya in 2003 until… BAM… four years later in 2007, she was cast as the female lead romancing Himesh Reshammiya in Aap Ka Suroor!
