This 21-Year-Old Delhi Girl Has Been Cast In The Desi Remake Of ‘The Fault In Our Stars’
John Green may have written a lot of books, but little did he know that his name would be synonymous to one of the greatest modern love stories to have ever been written. Even some of the most cold-hearted bookworms out there shed copious amounts of tears as they discovered the amazing journey of Augustus and Hazel Grace in the bestselling novel, The Fault In Our Stars. It wasn’t long before movie-lovers followed suit when the movie released in theatres in 2014, and four years later, we are all still reeling from the damn feels.
Bollywood has officially taken on the task of remaking the movie with Indian stars, and the latest report has confirmed that new girl on the block, Sanjana Sanghi, will be taking on the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster that Shailene Woodley reprised in the original movie.
Who is Sanjana Sanghi?
Actress Sanjana Sanghi is all set to take on the industry as the lead in the movie, but this isn’t the first time that she’s been on the silver screen. Her first ever role in Bollywood was back in 2011, when she played Nargis Fakhri’s younger sister in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar.
Following this, she made a brief appearance in the Irrfan Khan-starrer Hindi Medium in 2017, as well as Fukrey Returns.
According to a report by a national daily, casting director Mukesh Chhabra, who will be making his directorial debut with the film, said, “I met Sanjana while casting for Rockstar and found her to be a dynamic girl with great energy. After a few years, she reconnected for a few ad jobs and this time she came across as a mature young lady and to my surprise, a fabulous actor. I knew instantly that I would love to make a film with her one day.”
“Once The Fault in Our Stars script was ready, she fit right in. She’s the perfect face and I can’t wait to create magic with this talented girl”, he added.
Apart from her roles in movies, Sanjana has also made an appearance in ads for several brands including Coca-Cola, Samsung, Tanishq, Fogg, Gionee, Close-Up, Dabur, and Subway (phew!).
The 21-year old actress, who graduated from Lady Shri Ram College in 2017, took to social media to express her excitement in collaborating with Mukesh Chhabra and co-star Sushant Singh Rajput on the Bollywood remake of the John Green novel.
Reports confirmed a while ago that Sushant has been cast as the male lead against Sanjana in the Bollywood remake, where he will be playing the role of 17-year-old Augustus Waters that was first portrayed by Ansel Elgort in the original movie.
While we aren’t too sure that 32-year-old Sushant should be portraying the role of a high-schooler in the remake, that too paired with the 21-year-old Sanjana who looks much closer to the role of Hazel Grace, I guess we’ll have to just wait and watch how this love story pans out on the big screen.
