Come rain or sunshine, flops or superhits, there is no stopping Salman Khan. Despite how his film Tubelight faired at the box office, for the second consecutive time, Khan aced the list with his earning of a whopping ₹232.83 crore, which was backed by several brand endorsements. In fact, his earnings amount to 8.67 percent of ₹2,683 crore, aka the entire earnings of the top 100 celebrities for the year.
Coming second once again was Shah Rukh Khan, with ₹170.5 crore, and Virat Kohli, India’s Cricket captain, with ₹100.72 crore, at the third place. But although the three of them held on to their ranks, compared to their last year’s total earnings of ₹626.52 crore, their cumulative earnings declined by almost 20 percent, coming down to ₹504.05 crore.
Badminton player P.V. Sindhu was the highest gainer on the list. At 57.25 crore, her total earnings increased by 17 times, since her 2016 Rio Olympics silver medal, followed by a plethora of brand deals.
Following the ill fate of Padmavati, Deepika Padukone is no more in the top 10, and after her international success, Priyanka Chopra has moved up a place to number 7. Aamir now features in the top 10 but Amitabh Bachchan has dropped out of it.
In spite of her earnings taking a blow after numerous controversies surrounding her, Kangana Ranaut features at 26 on the list while newly married Anushka Sharma is on 32. Meanwhile, Kareena Kapoor is at 47th spot this year with Sonam Kapoor and Katrina Kaif occupying 55 and 56 positions respectively.
With several big-budget films set to release next year, we can’t wait to find out how 2018 pans out for our favourite celebrities.
