Amidst the rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pulwama terror attacks in which more than 40 CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) soldiers lost their lives, a comment made by Navjot Singh Sidhu was brutally criticised. He faced a public backlash for trying to defend Pakistan’s case and was therefore sacked from ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. However, according to recent reports, it looks like Sidhu is all set to return to the show with the help of Salman Khan, once the dust has settled enough.
To give you a little flashback, the remark that left people fuming over this ever-so-jolly television personality and Punjab minister was, “For a handful of people, can you blame the entire nation and can you blame an individual? It (the attack) is a cowardly act and I condemn it firmly. Violence is always condemnable and those who did it must be punished.” Many angry citizens hence retaliated on Twitter and hashtags like #BoycottSidhu and #BoycottKapilSharmaShow started to trend.

Later, Sidhu tried to defend himself and claimed that his comments had been ‘distorted’ by saying, “I was only saying that we need to find a permanent solution to the problem of terrorism. Why should soldiers be made to suffer each time? Such attacks have been happening for the last 70 years.” However, all his efforts went in vain. As social media flooded with hate comments against him, it resulted in his ouster from the comedy show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ in which he played the role of a celebrity judge.
However, as per reports by a leading publication, Sidhu might be back in the show once things begin to settle down. It is being said that the agreement between Sidhu and Sony TV has not ended yet and the channel along with the show’s producer, Salman Khan want him back on the show. But the channel has reportedly asked Kapil Sharma and his team to refrain from commenting on this controversy.

A few days later, Sidhu had also mocked the trolls by sharing a quote by Union External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj following the air strikes that were carried by the Indian Air Force on terror camps in Balakot. He shared an image of her statement which read, “The fight is not with Pakistan, but with terror establishments,” and tweeted, “Kyun Bhakto??” in his attempt to seek an answer from those who ran a hate campaign against him for his similar comment on the Pulwama attacks.
As of now, TV actress Archana Puran Singh who replaced Sidhu in the show had signed for only 20 episodes, thereby proving that the contract between Siddhu and Sony TV was never terminated. Hence, we may get to hear Sidhu’s laughs in the show once again, after all. The ban imposed by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees which prohibits him from entering the Film City will then also be lifted.
