Kokilaben Opens Up About ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’ Being A Regressive Show

Thanks to Yashraj Mukhate’s viral rap video, the second season of Saath Nibhaana Saathiya will hit the screens tonight (October 19) and the fans are super excited. Not just the fanbase, Rupal Patel, who will be reprising her role as Kokilaben Modi in the show, is also excited to be back on the sets. She recently spoke about working on Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2 and also opened up about how the show is being called sexist and regressive.

Talking to a media portal, Rupal explained as to why she doesn’t think of SNS as a regressive show. She said, “I believe that if you have to show something in terms of modernity, there has to be a base. The graph of growth is really important. In Saathiya, we had an uneducated girl, who has no knowledge of life and society, being mentored by her mother in law. If we showed her very smart from day one, we couldn’t have taken the story ahead. This girl who washed a laptop is sent to a school, trained to handle business and get over that ‘bechari’ image. I feel that was so progressive.” It’s all about showcasing the journey from wrong to right and one does take certain cinematic liberty while doing so to entertain the audience, the actress added.

Rupal, who plays an important role in another daily soap, Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyar Ke, said that she was hesitant earlier to reprise her role as she thought it would be difficult to juggle between two shows. But the makers and the channel made it really easy for her. The actress said, “As I was already doing Yeh Rishtey Hai Pyaar Ke, I had some hesitation. However, the makers and channel were very supportive. They worked on the schedule and accommodated both shows.”

When asked about her first reaction to the idea of Saathiya 2, Rupal said that she was super excited. “The show made history and Kokila is such an iconic character. The best thing is that we are coming back on public demand. The audience loved us and missed us, and here we are to entertain them again,” she added.

Besides Rupal, Devoleena Bhattarcharjee (Gopi bahu) and Mohammad Nazim (Ahem Modi) will also be a part of the show, while Harsh Nagar (Anant) and Sneha Jain (Gehna) will play the new leads.

For the uninitiated, while Harsh has done a few TV shows earlier, Sneha will be making a debut in the Hindi television industry with Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2. She has done a few Gujarati shows and has been part of the theatre for quite some time now.

The show will air at 9 pm tonight and we hope that the second season is more than just a saas-bahu saga.
