Sridevi has passed down her passion for beauty to Janhvi and Khushi as an heirloom; especially her love for fruits in DIYs. That’s why many of the siblings’ go-to recipes for the skin involve bananas, papayas, and more. Janhvi even mentioned something about trashing the bathroom and clogging the shower with fruits when both the Kapoors are on holiday.
But it’s worth it. Janhvi turns to one such fruit that most of us have loved for years. Hint: You’ve probably dipped it in a bowl of Nutella.
I’m talking strawberries. Here’s all you need to know about its benefits for the skin.
It Can Delay Ageing
Strawberries are rich in antioxidants. This includes Ellagic Acid: a polyphenol found in fruits and vegetables. Vitamin C is another component. This allows the fruit to protect your skin from UV-induced damage; effectively preventing the development of lines, pigmentation, and wrinkles on the skin.
It Can Brighten
Ellagic Acid can even inhibit the activity of an enzyme that’s involved in the production of melanin; lightening and brightening your skin in the process. It also contains salicylic acid which helps in gentle exfoliation, and thus, brightening skin for a radiant, glowy complexion.
It Can Fight Acne
Since strawberries contain Salicylic Acid, they can unclog the pores and dissolve all the bacteria and build-up on the inside effectively. This treats and prevents flare-ups at the same time.
It Can Reduce Puffiness
The alpha-hydroxy acids present in strawberries allow them to tackle puffiness and pigmentation around the eyes. They soothe the skin and reduce inflammation.
It Can Balance Oil Production
If your skin is oily, the acidic nature of strawberries can counter this over-production of sebum and reduce oiliness.
Strawberries have ultra-moisturising properties that nourish and heal dry, flaky lips. Salicylic Acid exfoliates the lips, aiding them to look a lot more pinker and plumper.
Since Janhvi hasn’t revealed how she whips up her strawberry-infused mask at home, here are some recipes for you to take inspiration from:
- To whip up a nourishing, hydrating lip mask, mash up one strawberry and add a teaspoon of honey and olive oil to the mix. Your mask is ready. Simply massage it onto the lips, keep it on for a couple of minutes, and gently rinse it off.
- Mash up a couple of strawberries and add a little yogurt (oil-prone skin) or fresh cream/malai (dryness) and honey to it. Mix all the contents until they form a paste-like consistency and spread it evenly onto the face. Wash it off after 20 minutes, and that’s it.
- To remove a tan or reduce pigmentation, mix a few strawberries with a tablespoon of lime juice and leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm or warm water after.
But if you’re lazy, you can check out these products. I promise they work like magic.
I know what I’m doing on my vacay now. Thanks, girls!
