It’s been over a year since the #RaLia wedding and Alia Bhatt still can’t stop talking about her husband. As sweet as that might sound, the actress is certainly revealing way more than she intends to. Most of what she has shared about Ranbir Kapoor as a husband has the fans alarmed. Based on her interviews and some of their recent videos, it appears that RK didn’t progress with time and is still living in his own patriarchal world. Here are four incidents when he came off as a chauvinist and gave off an intense 90s husband vibe.
The Lipstick Remark
Alia recently shot a lipstick video for a popular magazine and talked about how her husband always asks her to wipe it off. Why does he do it, you ask? Well, ‘coz he likes her “natural lip colour better.” The question is—why can’t Alia do whatever she wants to do with her makeup? But “choices” and “autonomy” are, of course, complicated concepts that men in the 90s had no grasp of whatsoever.
The Very Problematic ‘Phaloed’ Video!
Back in 2022, Ranbir left Alia’s fans shocked by making a tasteless comment about Alia’s pregnancy weight gain. The couple was doing a social media live for Brahmastra when someone asked Alia why weren’t they going all aggressive with the promotions. Alia very gracefully answered by saying, “Haan karenge,(we will do it) we will be everywhere, but the question that you are asking is why are we not phaloed (spread) everywhere and doing everything.” Before she could finish, RK interrupted and said, “Well right now I can see someone is phaloed” while looking at her baby bump. Alia was visibly taken aback by the joke and so were her fans. Body shaming a pregnant woman? Pathetic!
When Ranbir Said He Didn’t Want Raha To Become Like Alia
While Ranbir apologised for his “phaloed” remark, he didn’t stop giving tone-deaf interviews. During one such interview, he openly declared that he doesn’t want Raha to become like Alia. He said, “I hope (Raha) looks like Alia. She’ll be a nicer-looking person if she looks like her. I just hope she has my personality rather than hers because I can’t have two women like Alia in the house. Alia has a very loud personality; she talks quite loud and is vivacious. Two girls at home like that would be quite a daunting task for me. I hope Raha is a bit more quiet and demure like me so then we both can handle Alia.”
Later in an interview, Alia also talked about how she is never allowed to get angry. She shared, “I have to try very hard to control my anger because my husband does not like (it) when my voice goes above this decibel. Because he thinks it’s not fair and it’s important to be kind even when you are unhappy.”
Wow, the guy just hates his wife’s personality. Don’t be too surprised if he ends up making one of those problematic husband-wife PJs someday!
RK’s Dependency On His Wife!
Ranbir once thought it would sound very cute if he says he is extremely dependent on Alia and needs her to be around all the time. So, he did it and said, “I am actually very dependent on Alia Bhatt. Main bathroom nahi jaata without knowing ki Alia kidhar hain. Main khana nahi khaata without asking is she around. Mere liye bohot jaroori hain ki Alia is around me all the time.” Wow, someone remind RK he isn’t Alia’s clingy kid but her husband!
Alia darling, blink twice if you feel like you just travelled back to the past, crashed your time capsule, and don’t know how to come back. ICYMI, it’s 2023 and we don’t let husbands tell us what to do, how to talk, and body shame us!
