If you’re not aware of the influence of Korean skincare, you’re probably living under a rock. K-beauty is everywhere today. Be it the idea of glass skin, or the controversial 10-step skincare routine, the concepts have hit it off – and with good reason.
There are numerous reasons why K-beauty has Unlike the Western skincare routine, the Koreans focus on treating issues before they begin to develop. From signs of ageing to pigmentation and blackheads, K-beauty is cosmetically elegant with less irritating products. But it doesn’t end there. Korean skincare is way ahead of the rest of the world. While we were still using micellar water to get rid of our makeup before cleansing our face, they were already double cleansing. While we were whipping up dahi mixes for instant hydration, they were using sheet masks. But it doesn’t end there.
The Coolest Innovative Skincare Products From Korea
Microneedle In A Bottle
The VT Cosmetics Reedle Shot level 100 & 300 serums mimic the effects of microneedling on the skin. It contains a Cica Reedle which has a microneedle-like structure that enables the active ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin’s derma layer. It’s supposed to sting a little to do the job it promises and also exfoliates the skin, leaving it healthier, brighter, and smoother.
UV Blocking Sunscreen Patches
The FRANZ Naked SunShield Peptide Patch is a barely visible sunscreen patch that’s infused with hyaluronic acid and peptides. It works like an under-eye patch. All you need to do is cleanse your skin, remove the patches from their box, and apply them to your cheeks. They almost melt in and block out UVB and UVA rays! It’s one of the many ways to protect your skin from the sun.
A Collagen Power-Boosting Sheet Mask
There are multiple dupes already, but remember when everybody’s feed was taken over by the sheet mask that almost dissolved into the skin? It’s something of an Instagram legend at this point. This mask replenishes moisture from the skin’s inner levels while boosting the skin’s elasticity. All you need to do is apply it to your skin and leave it on for around 40 minutes. It can even be used as an overnight sleep mask for best results.
Blackhead Melting Pads
If you have oily skin or visible pores, blackheads must be the bane of your existence. Sure, nose strips are a decent way to get rid of them temporarily but Koreans are always a step ahead. These pads are meant to be applied to your nose or any area with blackheads, for 10-15 minutes. These pads melt the sebum on the skin following which all you need to do is wipe it off!
Peel-Off Masks
These masks are gentle on the skin but don’t strip it of moisture at the same time. They’re exceptionally hydrating, nourishing, and exfoliating the skin while also improving its elasticity. Apply it like a regular face mask and use some water to peel it off once dry.
Rubber Face Masks
Sure, they look a little freaky but don’t let that deter you from trying these masks out. Sheet masks offer temporary hydration but these rubber alternatives add a cooling sensation to the process. They can also be applied for a longer duration and are more intensive.
Placenta Serum
Yup, you read that right. It’s been known for a while now that the placenta is great for the skin (thanks Kourtney Kardashian!). Snail mucin is a thing of the past, mammary placenta is set to be the next big K-beauty find and you read it here first!
Some of these have truly given me the ick (placenta? please!) but check back in the next 6 months and I’m sure there will be so many more unusual things on the list. The Koreans really do all they can to look after their skin!
