Priyanka Chopra-Jonas has reigned over the entertainment industry for over two decades. But, it seems like that her fans have learned more about the actress in the past few months than they did in the past 20 years. All thanks to her memoir, Unfinished, that released worldwide on February 9.
The Quantico actress has shared several anecdotes from her life in her memoir, some of which she also posted about on her social media handles. From unheard of red carpets moments to opening up about facing racism, Priyanka has bared it all in her book and we’re truly in awe!
Recently, the desi girl also revealed that every person mentioned in her book had read the memoir before its release. In an interview with a leading publication, she said, “Everyone who is mentioned in the book, has read the book. I was very clear about that. I didn’t want any surprises later. In fact, I worked on it in a very weird way. When I wrote about my experiences, I penned down my version that I remembered. Then I would call up the person who was part of it, to corroborate my story. I needed a lot of filling in the blanks from them. Memory is funny thing; you leave a lot behind.”
In Unfinished, PC has also shared an instance that exposes the obsession of the entertainment industry with stereotypical standards of beauty. She has revealed that after being crowned Miss World 1994, she met with a filmmaker who asked her to ‘fix’ herself.
According to a leading daily, the excerpt from the book read, “After a few minutes of small talk, the director/producer told me to stand up and twirl for him. I did. He stared at me long and hard, assessing me, and then suggested that I get a boob job, fix my jaw, and add a little more cushioning to my butt.”
Not just that, Priyanka also wrote that her then-manager had sided with the director’s verdict. She added, “He said he knew a great doctor in LA he could send me to. My then-manager voiced his agreement with the assessment”.
The woman who has made our country proud on a global platform with her talent was once considered not ‘beautiful’ enough–let that sink in. Leave aside the fact that PC is a global celebrity, the mere fact that anyone is advised to fix their appearance to fit into the beauty norms set by our society is one of the most outrageous things ever!
The White Tiger actress also explained that the reason she never opened up about these memories before was that she wanted to keep her walls high and focus on her work. She said in the interview, “I’m a woman in the entertainment business, which is kind of patriarchal and I had to be tough. When entertainers show their weakness, people enjoy pulling you down. I learnt to keep my walls up. I kept them up, did my job and didn’t talk about the things I overcame. I’m much older and self-assured now, which makes it easier to discuss things from the past. This book is not me offering any form of clarification. It’s a story of my life from my eyes.”
We’re glad PC is finally opening up about her past, and we can’t wait to get our hands on a copy of Unfinished!
