Everyone’s overlining their lips these days, but do you know how to do it correctly? Some complain that this lip trend doesn’t suit them but that’s probably because there’s a knack to doing it right that not everybody knows of.
Luckily, one celebrity makeup artists who is responsible for starting this trend has revealed her secret. Mary Philips does makeup for stars like Priyanka Chopra, JLo, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Bieber, and she shared how she makes their lips look super pouty without any lip plumpers.
What Is The Overlined Lip Trend?
This trend is all about adding volume to your lips without any injections or painful procedures. Overlined lips are typically created with a lip liner and lipstick or gloss. The overlining lip trend requires you to draw over and above your natural lip line with a lip pencil. But the key is to perfect this application so that it looks natural. Once you’ve enhanced your lip shape a lipstick or gloss is used to fill in colour.
Celebs like Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, JLo, and Kylie Jenner always use this lip trend and that’s why they always look so pouty.
Pro Makeup Artist’s Technique To Overlined Lips
While the traditional method only involves a lip liner and a lipstick or gloss, Mary Philips has two more products in the mix to ace the trend like a pro.
Step 1: Begin with a nude lip liner and start to draw right over and above the sides of your lips. Make sure the lip liner sticks to your natural lip line, but it is still outside of the natural lip and not over it.
The MyGlamm LIT Matte Lipliner Pencil – Blended because it is close match to most Indian lip shades.
Step 2: Overline the lips at the Cupid’s bow and below the centre of the lower lip. You can go a little higher with the application of lip liner here. Just make sure to not leave any empty space between your natural lip line and the extended lip liner placement.
Step 3: Use a soft small brush to blend the lip liner. This step is important as it gets rid of harsh lines and will make the lip liner look more natural. It is the step that will make your lips look naturally bigger.
Step 4: Clean up the edges with concealer.
My go-to concealer is the MyGlamm Super Serum Concealer.
Step 5: Swipe on your favourite nude lipstick or lip gloss. Mary used a tinted nude lip gloss and I love how that looks.
A tinted lip gloss with a lip plumping effect looks great on the lips like the Typsy Beauty Crystal Crush Plumping Gloss – Peach Moonstone 03.
With Mary Philips’ easy overlined lips tutorial you can look like you got lip fillers without actually having to commit. It’s a ‘your lips, but better’ kind of deal.
