Sabyasachi Mukherjee is the first designer any girl turns to when she’s looking for trousseau inspiration. And every time he debuts a new collection, we just go oooh and ahhh, the clothes are that beautiful. So when the designer debuted his #JulyCampaign, we just had to bring it to you guys ASAP!
Keeping to the theme of vintage, royalty-inspired glamour, this new Sabyasachi bridal collection is intended for winter weddings and is all about a mix of intensely deep colours and stunning neutrals. Plus, this time he’s experimenting with classic Parsi embroidery techniques and silhouettes. The jewellery is by Kishandas & Co. and is in line with the vintage theme. Take a look below for our favourite picks from the collection – perfect for both the bride and her bestie!
1. The gorgeous lehenga saree

Something we’re bookmarking for our reception immediately! This neutral, tulle lehenga saree is such a palate cleanser after the hundreds of jewelled lehengas we see all the time. The work is ‘crystal embroidery’ as the designer is calling it. Plus, grooms have never looked so royal as in this printed, textured sherwani! Time for them too to let go off the zari embroidery? Yes, we think so!

You can see the subtle interplay of emerald green and metallic embroidery above. Plus, the choker-style diamond and emeralds necklace and earrings are offset with just a slim watch and rings on the hands. Not a bad look for a wedding guest too!
2. When you love a saree and nothing else will do

This blush pink saree with Parsi embroidery on the border and a smattering of pink, pearl-like flowers at the bottom has us swooning. We love the styling too – a deep-necked, sleeveless blouse and the severely pulled back hair accentuated with numerous strings of pearls.

For the wedding guest who doesn’t shy away from bold fashion choices, we recommend this dark-hued hand-printed organza saree. The border is made from vintage Banarasi brocade but take a look at the high neck and elbow length sleeves of the blouse too! Such a welcome change.

Here’s a more elaborate version of the tulle saree with a vintage aari-embroidery blouse.

The minimalism of this Parsi saree will really make you stand out from the other OTT-styled guests.
3. The shawl kurta!

Sabyasachi apparently heard the cries of all girls around the country – how can we look stylish at a winter wedding without juggling with heavy shawls? The result – a kurta which incorporates the shawl! The cape-style back and drape in front will keep you warm, while the strong, Kashmiri phiran-like silhouette will dial up the style factor. The designer has made a plea for simplicity with this collection and this kurta really does underscore that point.
4. The Parsi lehenga

This is so different from the kalidar lehengas we’ve seen till now! Won’t it be perfect for a sangeet performance styled exactly the way it is? The embroidered zardozi belt is really in trend right now and Sabyasachi puts his stamp on it with his signature elephant motif. This is a truly versatile outfit which will not look OTT even after the wedding.
5. Swing it with the sharara

The sharara is really making a comeback these days and it’s a great alternative to the wedding lehenga or saree for the bride. A deep-necked kurta with full sleeves and a skirt that is completely covered in exquisite hand embroidery – what’s not to love? Imagine it in green or your favourite colour!
6. And, of course, the stunning bridal lehengas!

This velvet lehenga is, hands down, our favourite from this bridal collection. The elephant and the chattri are such a cheeky motif for a bridal outfit!

Sabyasachi knows we’ve seen enough floral lehengas but that the trend is not going away. These blouses, paired with jewel-hued velvet lehengas, are a nod to that. Also, this blouse style was last seen in a Hindi movie from the 1960s – what a flashback! It’ll do as your engagement lehenga, no? 😀

This is as bridal as it can get! This silk lehenga (again – no kalis!) is embroidered in the aari style and look how perfectly it goes with heavy bridal jewellery!
7. Reception gown inspiration

Yes, this! We’re so tired of all the lurid Disney Princess-style gowns we see all the while. Cut through the clutter in this classic, frock-style, heavily embellished gown instead! Notice how the waist is subtly accentuated and the skirt is double-layered! Only the top layer is embroidered and the bottom one is neutral-coloured but ends with the same border.

Here’s a closer look at the embroidery and other construction details – the sleeves end in visibly different embroidery giving them definition and notice how carefully the bodice is constructed.
