Undeniably famous in the tech world, Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Chairperson of HCL Technologies and CEO of HCL Corporation, is the first Indian woman to head a listed IT company. As the daughter of Indian IT pioneer Shiv Nadar, Roshni had a larger-than-life predecessor’s shoes to fill when she took over as the head of the biggest tech giant in India in 2021. Eager to make an impact, she immediately took charge and drew from her experience as a producer for reputed news channels like Sky News UK and CNN America. She eyed brand-building as her prime focus and invigorated processes across the HCL Group. Soon enough, the world was taking note of this spirited changemaker. During her tenure as the company’s VP, she backed the much-talked-about acquisition of select IBM software products. The $1.8 billion purchase was the biggest ever in the company’s 29-year history and solidified Nadar Malhotra’s place as the future of HCL and India’s IT industry.

In 2021, Nadar Malhotra’s net worth boosted to $4.9 billion, making her one of the richest women in the country. However, she did not let the big move hamper her philanthropic pursuits. Under her stewardship, HCL provided 17 ready-to-use oxygen plants to the Delhi government during the pandemic to help fight the oxygen crisis. As a young leader, she has changed the face of HCL, one of India’s leading IT companies. Nadar Malhotra has set a precedent in effective leadership and shown us how it can be a mix of dynamism and empathy.
