Day Time Emmy Award Winner
Touted as the YouTube Queen of India, Prajakta Koli has amassed an enormous following of 6.58 million. But what sets this ‘mostly sane’ creator apart is her sense of social responsibility. Since the inception of her YouTube channel in 2015, she has actively spoken on mental health and body shaming. Girls’ education is a cause equally close to her heart. Her efforts have been recognised across national and international platforms. Koli is an influencer in the truest sense of the word. The year 2020 was monumental for this industrious creator. She produced and released a critically acclaimed short film on women’s empowerment in the rural areas of Haryana titled, Khayali Pulao. The same year, she became the first Indian digital creator to partake in the UN General Assembly. Later in 2020, she made a splash by featuring in Creator of Change, a documentary on how education can transform girls’ lives and create ripple effects. In the much-talked-about documentary, she shared the stage with Liza Koshy and Thembe Mahlaba and was seen in a conversation with Michelle Obama.
Power Move
In January 2022, Prajakta Koli was appointed as the Youth Climate Champion by (UNDP) India. She became the perfect candidate for the title owing to her contribution towards mental health, women’s rights, and girl child education. In 2021, Prajakta Koli won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Non-Fiction Special for Creator of Change. She shared the stage with internationally-renowned creators, Liza Koshy and Thembe Mahlaba. Helmed by Michelle Obama, the documentary delved into the experiences of girls who brave adversities to pursue education in countries like India, Namibia, and Vietnam. It is commendable how Koli has put her popularity and social media status to strategic use and social welfare. She has emerged as a youth icon and we cannot wait to watch the strides that she makes in future.
