One of the biggest nationwide protests against the centre, the farmers’ protest in India continues and goes on getting stronger by the day despite multiple rounds of talks between the agitators and the government. Just yesterday, the government had another round of failed conversations with the farmer union leaders with both of the sides relenting to bow down as of now.
By now, December is beginning to sound like the month of protests in India. Last year, it was the anti-CAA protests and this year we have the farmers’ protest. For the unversed, these farmers have been protesting against three bills that have been recently introduced by the government. Now while the government has been claiming that the bills eliminate the middlemen from the transactions thus helping these farmers with a better share of their produce’s cost, it has led way to some serious apprehensions.
The farmers are worried that the bills would also allow the government to snatch away their Minimum Support Price (MSP) i.e. the minimum profits that they are entitled to get for their produce. Since the beginning of these protests on November 26, the union leaders and government have had six rounds of failed talks resulting in no solutions as of now.
That said, a lot has happened in the past couple of weeks or so. From videos of agitating farmers allegedly being chased away by police to the protestors refusing to eat the food provided by the government, every single aspect of these protests lays bare the gnawing gap between the common man and the government.
Also, without taking any sides here, we gotta admit that there is a certain power, certain poetry in human resilience that never fails to move the world. As thousands of farmers gather around Delhi and continue to camp and protest on the site, the visuals from the farmers’ protests tell a similar story. Here’s hoping that the centre and farmers arrive at a fitting conclusion super soon.
