Modern Love! People Share Bizarre Excuses That They’ve Heard For Cancelled Dates

Imagine being all excited and dressed up for a much-anticipated date and suddenly the other person decides to take a last-minute rain check. Quite a buzz kill, right? Cancelled dates are a terrible thing. In fact, the only thing worse than cancelled date happens to be bizarre excuses that some people give to cancel dates.

For instance, if you have watched Netflix’s recently released docu-series Indian Matchmaking than chances are that you must be fostering a grudge against Vinay who was shown ditching Nadia for not one, but two of their dates after citing absolute ludicrous reasons. One of these reasons as he shared in a text was that he could not make it because he was in the middle of an argument with his sister. All of this while he knew that his date was waiting for him in a restaurant along with her friends. Quite douchy, right? But then again, this is modern love, and apparently no low is too low anymore.

A woman recently started a thread on Reddit and asked people: “What’s the most outrageous line someone has given you to cancel and/or change your pre-planned date plans?” Also narrating her own ordeal, the woman shared: “Mine was a guy I had been messaging for weeks (and had messaged with months prior) and we were about to meet for the first time. I’m just outside of Seattle, but he lives in Seattle. Most men than I’ve encountered don’t like to venture out of city limits for a first date, but clearly expect me to. This dude was staying at his family’s farm in Oregon during lockdown. When restrictions were lifted, he planned to come up to Seattle, then drive all around the state with his buddies doing a ‘golf course crawl’ over a long weekend. We had planned for him to come to my town and have a drink or two (socially distanced of course). When the time came to shore up meeting plans, his line was “I can’t drive up to meet you, my truck tabs are expired. Wanna meet down here?” He had taken said vehicle across two states with expired tabs, but ten miles from home was too risky??”

Well, seems like getting stood up is becoming basic AF in modern-day dating and that is quite a volatile topic among millennials. No other way to explain some of the craziest replies that poured in as the thread quickly caught on. Here’s what people had to share:
