I Added Patanjali Skincare To My Beauty Routine For A Week And Here’s What I Thought Of It…

Love it or hate it, Baba Ramdev owned Patanjali has captured the mass consumer market in India. Among other Ayurveda brands, Patanjali has emerged as a strong player, both in terms of sales and consumer appreciation. While the packaging may not appeal to most of us…Patanjali offers Ayurvedic, natural solutions to your beauty routine. If you’ve been looking to finally give in to Nani-ma’s remedies but are unwilling to whip something up, try Patanjali. Patanjali makes most of all your grandmother’s favourite home remedies into their skincare.

There’s no denying that you’ve probably come across or used a Patanjali product at least once. There’s a Patanjali product out there to replace everything in your beauty routine. So we did just that! I swapped out all of the products in my skincare routine and replaced them with all things Patanjali. One week later… and here’s what I thought!

1. Patanjali Saundarya Face Wash

Price: Rs 60

Texture & Consistency: The product has a thick, creamy white consistency and a refreshing orange scent. It takes a little bit of water to make the face wash lather and be easier to use.

Usage: I am not a fan of the thick consistency of the product but as a face wash, it does what it claims. After taking off my make-up, I used a generous amount of the facewash and rinsed my face. It doesn’t lather up too much but cleans your face well. The best part? I didn’t need to go in for a second cleanse. After drying my face it felt soft and hydrated yet pretty close to squeaky clean. If your skin prefers mild face cleansers, you may want to try it.

2. Patanjali Multani Mitti Body Cleanser

Price: Rs 35

Texture & Consistency: The soap is the colour of Multani mitti, of course! It has a rough and grainy feel n the skin and it’s pretty heavily scented. It works well as an exfoliating soap and it is a bit drying on the skin.

Review: The soap is grainy and rough, people with dry and sensitive skin won’t like it at all. If you have normal to oily skin, or you’re looking for an exfoliating summer soap with the benefits of Fullers’ earth, give it a shot. It’s not going to work miracles but it’s definitely going to brighten and smoothen your skin because of its exfoliating and deep cleansing properties. Fair warning, it may leave your skin feeling dry, so make sure you moisturise after you bathe. It’s pretty heavily scented, so if you don’t like a scented product… give this one a miss.

3. Patanjali Gulab Jal

Price: Rs 28

Texture & Consistency: Lightweight and mildly scented this is your budget-friendly, multi-purpose rose water.

Review: I personally love rose water, I use it to spritz my face every couple of hours when my skin feels too dry. I use it in my face packs and face masks and also as a toner occasionally. I used this for a week; comparing it to Dabur Gulabari rose water, I didn’t see a major difference apart from the price point (Patanjali’s Gulab Jal is more affordable than most other brands in the market).

4. Patanjali Coconut Hair Wash

Price: Rs 95

Texture & Consistency: This is a pleasantly scented creamy white shampoo. It has a thick consistency and lathers into a creamy foam.

Review: The shampoo is probably best for someone with dull and dry hair since it has moisturising properties. I used it twice to make sure I get rid of the oil in my hair. It didn’t leave my hair feeling too dry neither did it make my hair look amazing. It’s a functional shampoo if you have dull, dry, damaged hair you could give this a shot.

5. Patanjali Aloe Vera Gel

Price: Rs 80

Texture & Consistency: This aloe vera gel is lightly scented and has a mild green tint. It works well to hydrate your skin and hair.

Review: This is one of my personal favourite products from the Patanjali range. I’ve lived in humid conditions all my life and this is the only product that I use to hydrate my skin and hair in summers. It absorbs into your skin easily without leaving it sticky and comes in a tube packaging that makes it travel-friendly. I squeeze out a generous amount and massage my scalp and hair with it in summers it makes my hair smoother, shinier and more manageable!

6. Patanjali Strawberry Lip Balm

Price: Rs 25

Texture & Consistency: Thin, transparent, mildly scented and quite hydrating.

Review: Much to my surprise the lip balm was quite hydrating. It’s quite comparable to your good ol’ petroleum jelly but it’s got a lighter texture making it more comfortable to wear through the day. The only con is the way the product looks! I would love a cute looking lip balm but if you’re someone who can overlook that, give this a shot. For Rs 25, you can’t go wrong.

7. Patanjali Body Ubtan

Price: Rs 60

Texture & Consistency: A little grainy and quite fragranced but very effective in sloughing off dead skin.

Review: Another tradition in Indian households, many of our grandmothers used ubtans insteads of soaps. To this day, brides-to-be are advised to go for a body ubtan before their big day. Speaking of this one, I quite liked the texture. It’s got a pleasant fragrance and it’s a blend of Nani’s favourite dals. I’d recommend mixing some in a bowl before you head into the shower though, makes it easier to apply. I’m not sure on it’s de-tanning and skin brightening capabilities though. I’ll definitely try it after my next beach vacay.

8. Patanjali Multani Mitti Face Pack

Price: Rs 60

Texture & Consistency: It was quite runny and heavily fragranced.

Review: I’d rather use plain ol’ Multani mitti instead of a store-bought face pack that does the same thing. This one was heavily fragranced which I didn’t like and the consistency was a bit too runny for my personal liking. To be fair, it did leave my skin feeling cleaner and brighter.
