Let’s talk about that one celeb the whole internet is talking about – Orry. People are obsessed with him. To the extent that he recently was trending on Twitter. Considering how no one has any clue about what he does or who he is, the obsession is something I cannot wrap my head around. All we know about him is that he is ever-present at Bollywood parties and is friends with a lot of the younger generation of actors. And well, that’s about it. At best, we can describe him as “Everyone’s BFF.”
When you look at it, Orry is always spotted with the celebs. Not just Bollywood celebs, even Nita Ambani was spotted with him once.
Bollywood paparazzi pages always click pictures of Orry hanging out with celebs and they post this content religiously on social media.
Now, he is always hanging out with popular figures and the lack of information about him adds to his already mysterious persona, and everyone loves a good mystery. In India, the obsession with Bollywood celebrities is real and people actively search for anything that can provide them with more information about their favourite stars, even if it’s something they don’t want to share.
This is why Orry is relevant. When you hear the name Orry, the first thing that comes to mind is his association with celebrities. He has successfully established himself as a brand by sharing pictures with some of the biggest names in Bollywood. He has been interviewed by some of the most prominent personalities in the entertainment industry, and even Netflix featured him in one of their videos. It’s not Orry’s fault that he became the centre of attention. He simply took advantage of the opportunity presented to him, just like anyone else would.
The real problem lies with us, the consumers. Our obsession with Orry highlights the questionable practices we have when it comes to consuming content through social media. We are fixated on him and can’t seem to get enough of his images and videos, even though he remains an enigma. We consume any and every Orry content. It’s not entirely the fault of the media, as they are always on the lookout for stories that will generate the most clicks, and Orry’s content does exactly that. Guess who aids that? It’s us.
Since no one knows what Orry does people have gone to great lengths to establish him as some big shot in the industry. No one knows the truth, and maybe the truth might be far from it. However, the audience continues to lap up this content just because.
In the age of social media where our attention span is reducing with every scroll, Orry has managed to get the entire country glued to him by simply doing nothing and that speaks volumes about what we, as an audience, are willing to consume.
