The recent Nita Mukesh Ambani Culture Centre (NMACC) launch event has set the internet ablaze! Pictures of Bollywood and Hollywood stars serving looks are all over our Instagram feed. It is Priyanka Chopra’s look from day two of the event that has me particularly impressed though.
The “desi girl” decided to live up to the name on the second day of the NMACC gala by dressing up in a 65-year-old Banarasi saree. Here’s everyhting you need to know about the custom look:
When East Meet West
Leave it to Priyanka Chopra to make a stylish statement every time she steps out. She did exactly that while attending the “India in Fashion” exhibit for the NMACC gala. PC graced the red carpet in a risqué custom-made gown by Amit Aggarwal. The outfit featured a holographic bustier and Banarasi drape to go with it.
But the most interesting part of PCJ’s outfit is that it has been crafted from a 62-year-old vintage Banarasi brocade saree made using silver threads and gold electroplating over khadi silk. The saree was draped over a jewelled tone moulded base. The designer paired the saree with a holographic bustier, to reflect the nine colours of the ikat weave. The artisans took around six months to complete this masterpiece.
Taking to her Instagram, PCJ shared how she always wanted to upcycle a vintage piece with a modern twist. She further added that the outfit was a perfect representation of when “east meets west”, just like her. How cool!
Ami Patel styled PC’s look with jewels from BVLGARI and multicoloured heels from Christian Louboutin.
The outfit is a perfect ode to PC’s style and I am honestly in love!
