Now That Deepika Padukone Is Going To Play ‘Lady Singham’, Here’s What We Don’t Want To See
Christmas just came early for Deepika Padukone stans! Earlier today, filmmaker Rohit Shetty confirmed that DP has joined his cop-verse and will be playing a badass police officer in his next. During the Current Laga Re music launch, Rohit made the big announcement.
Rohit shared, “We are making Singham next. Everyone kept asking me who is the lady cop in my universe. So today, let me confirm that Deepika Padukone will be the lady Singham, the lady cop in Singham 3. We start shooting next year.” However, before we start cheering, there are some concerns that need to be addressed. While we would love to see Deepika as a rouge cop, there are a few things that we don’t want to see. Read on:
Unnecessary Item Numbers
Unfortunately, Bollywood has a thing for inserting random dance numbers in cop dramas. Be it “Fevicol Se” from Dabangg 2 or “Dilbar” in Satyamev Jayate, item songs have become the norm for action films. Just like cheese in street food, these are unnecessary and take you away from the plot. That said, we won’t mind a baddie track celebrating women which has nothing to titillate the male gaze.
OTT Love Angle? No Thanks!
Most of the cop dramas in Rohit Shetty’s are heavy on love triangles or romantic dramas. But can we skip it this time? It is about time we get a story with a woman lead who is happily single and doesn’t need a man to rescue her. We can totally see Deepika pulling this off.
Predictable Twists & Turns
In the last few years, Bollywood has picked up a formula for masala cop entertainers. While we love this tried-and-tested format, the audience is ready for something fresh. Instead of just car-blowing action sequences, how about some mind-blowing plot twists? Sounds cool, right?
Skip The Sexist Jokes Please
We know that we live in a patriarchal society and women have been on receiving end of poorly framed sexiest jokes for ages. But this time, can we leave sexism behind? We would love to see DP as a cop who takes no BS from anyone in her life and loves to shut down the haters. Let this film give us sassy comebacks that become pop culture hits.
TBH, we have too many expectations from Deepika but we know she can live up to them. Here’s to the first lady cop in Rohit Shetty’s cop-verse!
