We’re in that phase of the year where no amount of sunscreen seems to cut it. It’s too hot and sticky to reapply sunscreen every 3 hours, we get it. It’s not always possible to get to a washroom and wash your face before reapplying that second layer of sunscreen. Nobody wants to pile on layers of SPF on sweaty, sticky skin, right? So, how do you protect your skin from sun damage in situations like these? We’ve got your back! Here are 5 unconventional ways you can protect your skin from the harsh sun.
1. Sunscreen Setting Spray
The easiest way to top off your sunscreen without reapplying it every couple of hours is to invest in an SPF setting spray or a mist on sunscreen. All you need to do to reapply is close your eyes and spritz a little onto your face. Simply mist it on generously on exposed areas of your face or body. This sunscreen mist doubles up as a makeup setting spray and has an SPF of 30. It’s an organic spray that has 70% organic ingredients. The bottle is adorable and quite travel-friendly. Toss it into your purse and you’ll be ready to go.

2. An SPF Scarf
Did you know that there’s now SPF clothing too? Yes, you heard that right. If you plan to go on vacay or spend your day getting a tan on the beach, a sunscreen scarf will go a long way. Even if you’re simply commuting to work in a cab and the sun hits your face and you aren’t wearing sunscreen it’s pretty damaging in the long run. A sunscreen scarf wrapped around your face and body or simply placed against the window can help block out significant UVA-UVB radiation. They are made using an anti-ageing fabric that doesn’t allow UV rays to penetrate through your skin and provides UV protection of up to UPF 50+ and 98% UVA-UVB blockage!

3. Hats and Caps
An adorable cap or a floppy hat will protect your skin from the sun and complement your outfit in the cutest way possible. A floppy straw hat is an ultimate vacation essential you absolutely must indulge in. If you’re not planning to go on vacay, a regular cap will definitely add some spunk to your ensemble while bumping up your sun protection.

4. SPF Compact
This is one of my personal favourite ways to reapply sunscreen every few hours. I have oily, acne prone skin so using a product that mattifies my skin, gives it an even tone and an SPF of 50+ is always in my purse! An SPF enriched compact is a great way to touch up on the go and mattify your skin. You don’t have to be a person who applies makeup every day to use something like this. After applying your sunscreen and before stepping out of the house, swirl a large powder brush into this compact and brush it across your skin. It will add coverage, control oil secretion and mattify your skin while boosting your SPF protection.

5. UV Protective Clothing
Did you know that you get UV protective clothing too? But wait, before you think that this gives you the privilege of skipping using a physical sunblock let me burst your bubble right there. You still absolutely need to use sunscreen. UV protective clothing will just act as an additional layer. You can find UV clothing in different fabrics like linen and spandex too. That makes it perfect for the beach or even for other activities like swimming and snorkelling. If your skin is prone to sunburn and if you tan easily, this is a great way to minimize sun damage on a vacation or during everyday activities.
