Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas captivated the world with their grand Udaipur wedding in December 2018. The celebration was just magical, as one would expect from a big fat celebrity shaadi. But what set it apart was the couple’s decision of exchanging vows in two different ceremonies. To celebrate their different cultures, Nick and PC got married twice. While one ceremony was per Hindu rituals, the other one followed Christian traditions. Though Nick enjoyed every bit of the Hindu wedding and embraced everything about it with enthusiasm, one part proved to be quite challenging for him.
During a recent interview with a leading magazine, Nick shared a hilarious story from his Hindu wedding ceremony with Priyanka. Calling the varmala ritual ‘surprisingly difficult’, the pop-sensation shared, “There’s this one moment in Indian weddings where the bride and groom are lifted on the shoulders of their family members and there’s sort of a game that’s played where this garland is put on each other. They try to be the first to put the garland on the other. And it’s surprisingly difficult, especially when you have someone as competitive as me and Pri. But whoever is the one to put it on first, that side of the family is the more dominant.“
He further added, “So it’s really for the family members to feel pride and that’s just a funny game. But it’s really heartwarming and a great way for the families to all connect.”
In an old interview with another magazine, Priyanka also shared an interesting anecdote from their wedding. She said that everyone who flew from America to Udaipur was seriously jet-legged and they kept on dozing off in the middle of the rituals. She shared, “It’s done according to astrological charts and the auspicious time was 10 o’clock at night and everyone had flown done from America. They were just so jet-legged. I could just see my husband glaring at his family cause they were nodding off.”
It is so aww-dorable to see Nick and Priyanka embrace each other’s culture with so much love and respect. *touch wood*
