The world has been battling the coronavirus outbreak since December 2019. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the number of active coronavirus cases in India stands at 32,138 and about 1528 people have lost their lives to the deadly virus. To curb the increasing spread of the virus, the lockdown, which was supposed to end on May 4, has been extended till May 17. But lockdown 3.0 started across the country on Monday, May 4, with a few relaxations.
We, however, still can’t step outside, which means an influx of more free time with little to do. While staying indoors is the only option you have right now to prevent contracting the virus in the first place, you can also end up feeling gloomy cooped up at home. Thankfully, there’s no dearth of shows and movies to watch. So, to ease you through the remaining lockdown days, here’s our pick of new shows and movies from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar.

Becoming
The former first lady of the US, Michelle Obama, on Monday shared the trailer of the new, upcoming documentary that’s based on her American book tour. Becoming premieres on May 6 and is an authorised, behind-the-scenes documentary for Netflix. She wrote in her post, “This movie tells my story, from my childhood on the South Side of Chicago to my life today – and it celebrates the powerful stories of the people I met along the way.” That Michelle Obama, is a class act is a well-known fact and the documentary trailer shows just that. The trailer has Michelle rushing in and out of SUVs, striking conversations with her security, colleagues, making appearances on stage with celebrity moderators, and signing copies for her fans in bookstores. The Goldfinch
There’s no denying that it’s always the book that’s better. Same is the case with The Goldfinch that’ll premiere on Prime on May 8. Nevertheless, it’s totally worth it if you haven’t read the book. Adapted from Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel ‘The Goldfinch’, the movie revolves around Theo Decker, who is bound by a childhood trauma that he never stopped blaming himself for. Alternating between the past and the present, the movie is a peek into the life of grief-stricken Theo who is in search of redemption.

Dead To Me, Season 2
Let me begin by saying: watch this series if you miss Desperate Housewives. Now that I have your attention, let me tell you a little about Dead to Me, anchored by two fine female performances. The series stars Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini as Jen and Judy, strangers who bond at a grief support group. Both of them are lonely and they bond over long, late-night conversations. However, one of them is harbouring a dark secret. Intrigued? Watch the show and, of course, start with season 1 if you haven’t seen it yet.

Upload
How about a peek into the futuristic world of 2033? Upload is a sci-fi comedy that revolves around Nathan, a software entrepreneur, who gets killed in a car accident. After the accident, instead of getting operated on, his girlfriend convinces him to sign an agreement where he consents to be an ‘upload.’ What’s upload, you ask? A programmed extension where humans can upload their consciousness to a digital afterlife. So Nathan gets uploaded to Lakeview, which is a digital heaven meant for ultra-rich people. And the best part: he can still communicate with the world he leaves behind via video calls.
