Here’s How Neha Dhupia’s Parents Reacted To Her Pregnancy Before Marriage

Intimate weddings have become quite a trend in Bollywood. Before Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif, Neha Dhupia opted for one in 2018. She married her then-boyfriend, Angad Bedi, on May 10, 2018, in a hush-hush ceremony. When she dropped her shaadi pictures, not only her fans but also a few people from the industry were taken by surprise. Now, the actress has finally disclosed the reason behind her covert marriage. 

Neha disclosed her pregnancy on social media shortly after her marriage and gave birth to her first child, Mehr, in November 2018. Netizens criticised the actress for becoming pregnant before marriage because her daughter was born within six months of her wedding. Now, five years later, Neha has spoken up about her unexpected wedding and pregnancy.

In a recent interview, Neha revealed that she was pregnant before marrying Angad. She also spoke about how her parents reacted to the situation. She said, “When I told my parents that we’re gonna have a baby, there was silence. Bahut jhaad padi. I don’t think they were really prepared to hear that news that I was expecting.” 

However, her parents finally came to terms with it but gave Neha an ultimatum. Elaborating on this, the actress said, “They later said it’s okay. But told me that I have 72 hours before we turn this around. I was given two and a half days to then go back to Bombay and get married.” 

Since getting pregnant before marriage is considered taboo in India, Neha was worried people would stop offering her work. She said, “It was a good thing my bump wasn’t showing till the sixth month because appearances matter here, and one might be assumed to be unfit for a job. Fortunately, my energy levels are high.” Addressing the trolls, Neha said, “My choices aren’t hurting anybody. So then there’s no harm in doing what you want, what you please, and look at where it got us.” 

Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi are now parents to a four-year-old daughter, Mehr, and a one-year-old son, Guriq. The couple recently celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary and are currently living their best life together. Everything happens for a reason, right?
