Twitter Vs Neha Dhupia: #BoycottRoadies Trends After Her Problematic Remarks On The Show
While MTV’s Roadies has always had a reputation for its caustic audition rounds, things seemed to have diluted a little post Raghu Ram‘s exit from the reality show. And fresh hell broke yesterday on social media after an audition video form Roadies Revolution (i.e. the latest season of the show) started doing rounds on social media.
In the viral video, Roadies‘ judge Neha Dhupia can be seen bashing a guy for slapping his ex-girlfriend who allegedly cheated on him and five other guys. And while Neha can be seen calling him out for the same and this has provided the real fodder to Twitterati. Neha can be seen shouting on the guy, abusing, and telling him that it is the girl’s choice if she went out with five guys and that the problem must have been with him for her to go and seek love in other relationships.
Problematic as it is, the comment has caused serious outrage as tweeps go about trolling Neha for what she said. People have also unearthed an older clip of Neha being all praises for a girl who claimed to have slapped four guys. Consequently, Twitterati is currently busy calling out Neha for her “hypocrisy” and “fake feminism”.
In the same video, Neha’s co-judge Nikhil Chinapa can also be seen joining in as he goes on abusing the guy and calling him “Mother*****r.” Twitterati is losing it over the irony embedded in speaking for women’s respect on one hand and then using women-oriented swear words on the other hand.
Roadies is running in its 17th season this year. Titled Roadies Revolution, the current season was being promoted for being special as the judges have taken upon themselves to raise one social cause each. As it turns out, Neha is championing the cause of women’s safety in the season and Twitterati certainly won’t let that pass easily.
Enraged by Neha and Nikhil’s ludicrous comments, Twitterati has begun asking the channel to take down Roadies as #BoycottRoadies continues to trend on social media. Here’s what they have to say:
Beginning With The Basics
This Tweet Calling Out Indian TV For All The Right Reasons
This One Who Is Just Done With The Entire Cast
Oh, The Hypocrisy!
Oops, This Would Cause Some Burns
Saying It How It Should Be Said
Point!
However, there is yet another problematic side to the entire narrative. As people on social media go about calling out Roadies and Neha Dhupia, the actress had to disable her comments on social media because of the kind of derogatory threats and abuses that are being hurled on her. A part of holding people accountable for their words also involves doing it with a certain responsibility and not stooping to shameful levels. Otherwise, you are just a part of what you are trying to take down. Now, that’s some food for thought: think about it!
