Navratri Essentials You’ll Wish You Discovered Sooner

I’ve actually never been to a Navratri Garba – and for some reason, I thought experimenting in Mumbai, in the middle of the October heat, was a good idea. I ruined one of my nicest silk kurtas and careful makeup in under thirty minutes, which made me realise that a good Navratri look does not depend on how glamorous your makeup is. It’s really more about how long your makeup stays on.

Now, Navratri was not made for sweaty girls. But this list of sweat-proof products will keep you relatively dry as you seize the night with your moves (at least long enough to make some cute eye contact before you’re a sopping mess)!

For A Sweat-Free Navratri, Invest In These

Let’s start with makeup. The key is to use a good, lightweight primer that won’t budge despite your best efforts and a barrage of waterproof products that need an industrial shower to dissipate. For your primer, like everyone in the makeup industry I’d like to recommend the M.A.C Prep + Prime Fix primer for a tight base that will see you through the night.

If you’re looking for something a little more budget-friendly, the Renee Sucker Oil Pulling Primer is also a pretty good option.

But in case you feel like the primer is not enough to keep your makeup on, may I recommend a sweat-absorbing lotion? The Carpe No-Sweat Lotion is a good option and feels soft, almost like a powder but invisible. A little goes a long way and it takes a while to get absorbed but it’s a good product to have under your makeup – especially if you’re going to be dancing in 32-degree weather.

Now as for your intricate eye look, go for an intense kajal, tattoo liner and some waterproof mascara. I’ve been loving blue recently, so I’ve been wearing the M.A.C primer on my lids. This, followed by a series of vibrant blue products that tend to stay on the whole night without flaking, creasing or worse – dripping down my face mid-routine.

Now for the rest of the body! If you’re wearing anything with sleeves on Garba night, I’d like to introduce you to your new best friend – disposable sweat pads. Sirona has some great, budget-friendly ones that tend to last quite a while; just place them inside of your clothes and forget about them!

Last, something you can carry in your little potlis is, of course, blotting papers. Most of them work the same so there’s really no need to spend a lot of money on this. Pretty satisfying to use, just dab carefully wherever required to remove excess sweat/oil without ruining your makeup!

Voila, that’s pretty much all I’ll be using to go sweat-free for my next few Garba sessions!
