Getting your base right is one of the hardest part of make-up application. If you don’t apply your foundation well, your entire make-up look can go pretty downhill from there. It’s really easy to get carried away while applying foundation and there’s a very fine line between a ‘no make-up look’ and ‘a cake-face look.’ We’re all about the #IWokeUpLikeThis look and with these tips from Plixxo influencer and celebrity make-up artist Namrata Soni, that flawless base just got easier. This foundation tip may just completely transform your make-up game.
You won’t believe that this is what you’ve been doing wrong all this while! Hydration is *KEY* to that flawless, glowy make-up look. Make sure you cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate your skin. And no, we’re not asking you to slather on a tub of moisturiser and turn your face into an oil slick. Invest in a line of skincare products that are meant to hydrate and prep your skin before make-up. Find a rich, nourishing moisturiser that works for your skin type and apply it 20 minutes before beginning your make-up. The gestation period is what will give your skin that lit from within glow. Check out our list of pre-make-up moisturisers here.
Now, let’s spill the beans! Here’s Namrata’s secret to creating flawless, radiant skin on all your favourite celebrities, “The most important part of my make-up routine is the time I take to prep and prime the skin. I allocate the first 20 minutes of my routine to pampering the skin. One of my favourite ways to hydrate the skin is by using a sheet mask and an eye mask. Give it 15-20 minutes to work its magic and follow it up using a light but hydrating eye cream.”
POPxo Recommends: The Face Shop Real Nature Aloe Face Mask (Rs 100) and the Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream (Rs 1,950)
Namrata recommends finding a foundation shade and formula that works best for you. If you have normal to dry skin, pick a hydrating foundation. If you have oily skin, pick an oil-free foundation.
“I opt for foundations with a light buildable coverage, one of my favourite foundations is the Chanel Vitalumiere. Use a foundation brush to lightly apply the foundation to one side of your face. While using a foundation brush, always remember, downward strokes only. Once you’re done brushing on the foundation, use a damp beauty blender to blend out any harsh strokes and excess product. Apply product to one half of your face at a time, this makes the blending process much easier. Add some concealer under your eyes if required and use a translucent powder to set everything in place. Let your skin breathe for a few minutes before continuing to apply the rest of your make-up. I like to buff any extra powder using a fluffy powder brush.”
