We knew each other since childhood but barely spoke to each other. He was my neighbour and always tried to talk to me using one excuse or the other. We studied in the same school and he was three years senior to me. He had feelings for me in school too about which I came to know later when we started dating. We rarely spoke and things remained the same until he moved to Delhi for further studies. We sometimes spoke over social media but almost forgot about each other.
After two years he returned from Delhi during his break and that was the first time we shook hands and smiled at each other. Eventually, our conversations over WhatsApp began to grow and we even met every evening along with a few friends. That’s when we became close.
He used to post about his crush on Facebook and all of us kept on teasing him but he never revealed her name. Despite me requesting him so many times, he never told me her name. I didn’t mind him not telling me her name, as much, but the thought of him liking someone else made me feel jealous. His vacations ended and he had to go back to Delhi. I was not happy to know that he was leaving me, especially since we’d become besties!
Even after he left, nothing changed between us. We used to talk for hours. I insisted he tell me the name of his crush’s but he never did. I always thought how lucky that girl was because he loved her so much. One day he finally confessed that the girl of his dreams was none other than me. I was shocked but still did not say anything. Months later, I too, finally confessed my feelings to him.
He told me that he had a crush on me since the ninth standard but never had the guts to confess his feelings and he used to stand outside his house every evening waiting for me to cross his path… Just so he could get a glimpse of me and that just made me go ‘aww’.
We knew that we had to continue this long distance for years and we were both determined to do so. We knew long distance was hard but distance doesn’t matter when two people are loyal to each other. Of course, online date night and video calls made life much better and more interesting!
This is how our love story began… It has been a year and we are still the sweet couple who smile at each other’s texts like idiots. We may not able to see each other daily like other couples or go on dates or watch movies together but that’s okay because we love each other and that’s enough to keep us happy.
