What is the maximum number of diamonds you have seen in a ring? Max to max 10-15, if the band is made entirely of glittering stones. But I was in for a shock when I heard about the Mumbai jeweller who broke the Guinness World Record for having the most diamonds set in a ring. Can you guess how many?
HK Designs and Hari Krishna Exports Pvt. Ltd, a Mumbai-based company, created a ring with 50,907 diamonds in it. The record-breaking ring features a butterfly on top of a sunflower and is named Eutierria, meaning becoming one with nature. Mind = Blown!
The record-breaking ring is completely made out of recycled gold and diamond, re-purposed from returned pieces. Further, the gold in the ring weighs 460.55 gms whereas the diamonds are 130.19 carats. Currently, the ring is valued at a whopping amount of Rs 6.42 crore or $785,645.
According to the GWR website, it took them around nine months to complete to the whole thing, from ideation to creation. The computer-aided design (CAD) almost took them four months to perfect, since holding more than 50k+ diamonds is not an easy task. After the design was finalised, each part of the ring was cast in 18-carat gold. Once the design assembly was done, each diamond was carefully placed in the ring by experienced artisans. The last step was to then send it for polishing.
A team of qualified diamond and jewellery experts from the International Gemological Institute (IGI) has certified the ring. And to support its CSR efforts, the company has pledged to donate a tree for every diamond placed in the ring.
Till now, six Indian jewellers have broken the record of most diamonds set in the ring. Previously, it was a Kerela-based diamond jeweller, SWA Diamonds, that broke the record with a mushroom-shaped ring containing 24,679 diamonds.
Well, I am happy with my one-diamond ring!
