Back in the day, Sonam Kapoor turned the muse for designer Suneet Varma, who first brought the concept of breastplates to India thirty years ago. For one of her photoshoots, Sonam wore a customized golden breastplate that featured distressed detailing on the edge. She styled the plunging bustier with a stack of tribal arm accessories and a boho neckpiece. A 10/10 serve.
Mehr Jesia
In 1992, Suneet Varma first unveiled his gold-metallic breastplate with a saree look. The out-of-the-box ensemble was modelled by Arjun Rampal’s former wife and yesteryear supermodel, Mehr Jesia. The entire outfit’s inspiration was an ode to Suneet Verma’s favourite painting, ‘The Birth Of Venus’ by Italian artist Sandro Botticelli.

There’s hardly any look Zendaya can’t nail, and she proved the same as she stepped out in a hot-pink breastplate on the red carpet at the Critics’ Choice Awards in Santa Monica, back in 2020. After a long music hiatus, Rihanna finally returned to the stage in February, 23. For her highly-anticipated show, the singer wore an all-red ensemble with a blood-red nippled breastplate. Sydney Sweeney made a splash as she pulled off a straight-outta-runway look from LaQuan Smith’s spring/summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection for one of the award nights. She opted for a black maxi dress that featured a turtleneck and asymmetrical long sleeves. However, the centerpiece of the outfit was the torso, which opened up to reveal a stunning silver breastplate. To complement the silver accents, Sweeney wore a pair of silver studded earrings. Back in 2021, Cardi B’s ‘Rumours’ video created quite a stir on the Internet. Pakistani artist Misha Japanwala, who is known for her wearable sculptures collaborated with the WAP singer and made a mould of her for her pregnancy announcement through the song. The young artist made a custom gold breastplate and arm cuff for the rapper.
