Raise your hand if you’re a smart, independent woman who has personal goals, a thriving career, and an exciting social life. Raise your hand if you are also a person who comes home to watch Bigg Boss every night. Look, you don’t need to be ashamed to admit that you love the mindless drama of reality TV–we feel you, we are you! The reason why reality television is so entertaining is that we get to vicariously live out the drama happening in somebody else’s life. And everybody loves drama, as long as it’s not happening to them!

The Most Bizarre Reality Shows To Ever Be Aired
Our desi shows like Bigg Boss, Roadies and Indian Idol might be entertaining AF, but if you’re looking for something that will make you go WTF, these are the shows you need to binge-watch. Trust us, you won’t regret it!
Naked Attraction
Love dating apps? This show is like the reality TV version of Tinder. Except instead of swiping left or right, your potential matches are all standing in glass boxes. Naked. Each contestant is introduced as the camera does a slow reveal from the feet up–first their genitals, then torso then heads–before getting eliminated one by one by a single ‘picker’. The show’s infamous tagline says, “We like to start where a good date ends… naked.” The UK-based show received a lot of criticism when it first aired, and yet, it’s already four seasons strong. Watching this show kind of made me envious of the contestant’s sheer confidence about being naked for hours on television. Pro tip: Don’t watch it while you’re eating!
How Far Is Tattoo Far?
Skip this show if needles make you squirmish. Or if you are genuinely into tattoo art. If you’re lucky, you probably have some people whom you trust with your life. But do you trust them to design a tattoo for you, and not have it revealed to you till it’s inked on your skin? This is the WTF premise of this American reality show. While we’re still confused as to why anybody would willingly sign up to be on this show (because remember, not only is tattoo removal expensive, it is also painful AF!), but watching it as a third party will keep you hooked for hours!
Born Into The Wild
Have you ever come across this 2003 video of a woman giving birth in the woods? Well, the makers of the show liked the video so much they based an entire reality TV show on the same premise. Expectant parents may have heard of the term ‘natural birth’, but this show gave the term a whole new meaning! The show invited families who wanted to experience giving birth ‘in nature’…without any medical assistance. The show’s producers said an ambulance and an EMT were on-site during filming, but that did not seem to make this idea any less weird! No wonder the show got axed after only one season.
Joe Millionaire
If you have a low tolerance for sexism, this show isn’t for you. The premise of this show revolves around the cringy plot of one Evan Marriott, a bachelor, who is looking for his future wife after inheriting an absurdly large sum of money. Think of it as the western version of a swayamvar. Except guess what? Marriott isn’t a millionaire, he’s a construction worker. Only the viewers of the show know the real truth–the women are kept in the dark. Watch this show only if you think the idea of scamming women into thinking you’re rich is hilarious. *eye roll*
The Swan
This show really takes the cake when it comes to problematic premises. The Swan brings together two women who suffer from mental illnesses like body dysmorphia, depression and low self-image. And instead of referring them to a mental health specialist, what do the makers of the show make them do? The two women are made to undergo a total physical transformation at the hands of a panel of plastic surgeons. According to Huffington Post, one of the contestants was made to undergo an alarming number of cosmetic surgeries including a tummy tuck, buttock lift, inner thigh lift, dual facelift, upper lip lift, upper and lower eye lift, endoscopic brow lift, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, and breast lift. The show was cancelled after two seasons. Good riddance!
Which of these shows are you brave enough to watch?
