Monsoon Guide: Oily Skin Tips You Wish You Knew Sooner

It’s a red alert for all you oily skin beauties! The monsoon season can wreak havoc on your skin even though the rain can feel quite calming on the senses. It’s the humidity that can cause your skin to produce more oil and also lead to breakouts.

And while it might seem like there’s no hope to overcome your monsoon skin woes, that isn’t true because I have been through the same thing and have learned from my experiences. Here are some of the best oily skin tips for the rainy season that have saved me time and time again.

Cleanse The Right Way

Maintain a good cleansing cycle. Wash your face at least once or twice a day and use a skin exfoliator at least once a week. But do not use a face wash that is too drying or a face scrub that is too harsh.

I like to use a gentle daily face wash like the PureSense Natural Papaya Face Wash and a mild skin exfoliator like the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Exfoliant.

Mask The Grime

Don’t underestimate the power of a good face mask. This will reset your skin and give you an instant pick-me-up. I find a clay mask to be especially effective because it helps draw out impurities from my pores and leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean. And during the night, I like to use a soothing sleeping mask to heal and nourish my skin so that I wake up looking refreshed.

The Freeman Deep Cleansing Mud Mask With Charcoal & Black Sugar is one of my favourite clay masks to use during this season and the Quench Botanics Birch Please Intense Hydration Water Sleeping Mask is one of the best sleeping masks for oily and acne prone skin.

Try A Serum

After cleansing your skin, pat in a serum that will help with concerns like acne, enlarged pores, and excess sebum production along with other skincare benefits. A serum containing niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, bakuchi oil, or vitamin C will help keep your skin clear, non-sticky, and acne-free.

My go-to serum to use during the day is the MyGlamm 3% Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum and my favourite night time face serum that is clarifying and soothing is the Sereko Clarifying Serum with bakuchi oil and vitamin C.

Don’t Skip Moisturiser

Believe it or not, moisturiser is the holy grail product that will prevent your skin from producing excess sebum. And it is crucial to apply it even after you have used a face serum. A moisturiser will ensure your skin is hydrated so that it naturally does not have to produce more sebum. For oily skin, a gel-based moisturiser is the perfect fit for the monsoon season.

The Moody 7D Hydro Burst Water Gel is a gel-based moisturiser that will feel weightless on your skin no matter how much of it you massage on your skin, and the Manish Malhotra Cinnamon Ginger Night Gel is my favourite night moisturiser because it even soothes my breakouts.

Apply SPF Powder

You can suffer sun damage even when it’s cloudy. But I get that not all sunscreens will suit your skin type, but all powder sunscreens definitely will. A sunscreen powder will offer sun protection and also mattify your skin at the same time. Some sunscreen powders are tinted too.

My favourite powder sunscreens are the Sandiva SPF Top-Up Loose Powder which has a tinted formula and the Derma Co. which is a translucent sunscreen.

Follow these simple steps and your oily skin will be trouble-free this monsoon.
