A Closer Look At Miss Universe India, Rhea Singha’s ‘Golden Bird’ Costume That Stole The Show!

‘A new era begins’, wrote the official Instagram handle of Miss Universe as they congratulated Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark, the first Danish woman to win the coveted crown of Miss Universe 2024 at the 73rd edition on Saturday in the Mexico City Arena. Even though India’s representative, Rhea Singha missed out on the crown, her costume for the National Costume Round was truly remarkable.

The Miss Universe India 2024 wore a costume representing ‘Golden Bird’ or ‘Sone ki Chidiya’ for the round. The costume was designed by Vietnamese designer Nguyen Ngoc Tu and celebrated India’s historical prosperity and rich culture. The whole costume is jaw-dropping and makes you believe that creativity truly knows no boundaries. Take a look:

I really like how they’ve added jewels and a nath (nose ring) to give a more Indian touch to the whole outfit. Literally, sone par suhaga!

What Does ‘Golden Bird’ Mean For India?

According to many texts available online, India was called “Sone Ki Chidiya” or the “Golden Bird” because it was a land of immense wealth, cultural richness, and natural beauty. From gold and gemstones to flourishing trade in spices and textiles, India was a global hotspot for prosperity. Its fertile lands, legendary empires, and world-renowned universities like Nalanda made it a treasure trove of knowledge, spirituality, and innovation.
