Mirzapur season 2 dropped on October 22 on Amazon Prime and something like a bhaukaal followed after that. Fans patiently waited for two years to know what’s going to happen to Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) and how he is going to take his revenge from the Tripathi family aka the Kings of Mirzapur. Well, they definitely got the answers and some parts of the justice were served – brutally.
In season 2, Mirzapur fans witnessed how unpredictable politics can be and revenge really IS sweet. Almost none of the characters on the show were ever morally correct but the audience knew that Guddu was wronged more than anyone else. After seeing Guddu and Gajgamini Gupta aka Golu (Shweta Tripathi) avenging the murders of their loved ones in season 2, fans are already wondering wonder if season 3 is also in the making.
Mirzapur star cast did an excellent job–Pankaj Tripathi, Divyendu Sharma, and Ali Fazal were brilliant like always and the new faces like Anjum Sharma and Vijay Varma did not disappoint in the least. However, what really captured our attention was the strong female cast of the show. Mirzapur season 1 was quite male dominant in terms of plot and storyline but season 2 changed it all. It would not be wrong to say that it was the Women of Mirzapur who were the ultimate game-changers in the entire series.
Meet The Women of Mirzapur
From Beena Tripathi played by Rasika Dugal to Madhuri Yadav played by Isha Talwar, all the female characters rose above the patriarchal suppression in their own ways. They brought in some major twists that the fans definitely did not see coming! Let’s get to know how these female characters won our hearts.
Gajgamini Gupta
Gajgamini Gupta aka Golu made her first appearance in Mirzapur season 1 with her secret masturbation session. The following scenes revealed that she was a presidential candidate in her college elections and was standing against Munna Tripathi. The fans knew from the start that Golu was a strong woman who neither feared guns nor goons. By the end of season 1, she had lost her elder sister, Sweety Gupta (Shriya Pilgaonkar), and her love interest, Bablu Pandit (Vikrant Massey).
In season 2, Golu becomes the backbone of mission ‘revenge’. She is the brains behind it, the one who closes the deals, make the plans, and executes them with precision and passion. Her fierceness ultimately makes it possible for Guddu and her to seek their revenge. Could the story have progressed if it wasn’t for Golu? Maybe, but not so brilliantly!
Beena Tripathi
In season one, Kaleen Bhaiya’s wife Beena Tripathi (Rasika Dugal) was never satisfied with him in bed. She looked for sexual satisfaction outside her marriage and her extramarital affair was caught by her father-in-law, played by Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Upon finding out the truth, he sexually harassed Beena and demanded sexual favours from her forcefully.
In season 2, Beena uses her manipulation skills to survive in her male-dominant family. After learning about her pregnancy, she works, plots and manipulates to thrive at all costs. Her desperation to make it till the end knows no bounds and fans see a new Beena who is cunning, smart, and dangerously selfish. She doesn’t seem to mind collateral damages and destroying everything that comes in her way of survival.
Madhuri Yadav
Madhuri Yadav (Isha Talwar) is a new character who has been introduced in season 2. So without spoiling it further for you, we will just say that she manipulates some of the strongest minds in the series and grabs every opportunity by its throat. Perhaps, one of the most clever characters in Mirzapur!
Zarina
Zarina, played by Anangsha Biswas, was a former sex worker and dancer in the series with high aspirations. She gets into a relationship with J.P. Yadav (Pramod Pathak), the younger brother of the CM of Uttar Pradesh, to enter politics. Even after entering politics, she was treated merely as a sexual object. So in season 2, Zarina decides to give it back. She makes deals with the devil. Zarina brings a major twist in the plot that no one could have anticipated.
The female characters in Mirzapur season 2 are street-smart, manipulative, strong, cunning, and most importantly, survivors. They use every rule in the arbitrary rulebook to get what they want and succeed at it. They surely cannot be called feminists, but they know their situations and their options correctly. Have you seen the show yet?
