If there’s one celebrity who’s really opened up about her skincare journey, it has to be Mira Kapoor. The star wife has always been candid and straightforward about what she’s into – beauty-wise. Something works for her; she doesn’t gatekeep. If it doesn’t like something in particular, she cautions against it.
So when we spoke exclusively to Mira, for the launch of her skincare brand Akind, she reiterated her skincare dos and don’ts for us.
DO – Keep It Simple
Mira’s biggest skincare fundamental has always been “Keeping it simple. We get so much information, rather than listening to all this information around you and getting overwhelmed,” she says it’s important to tune in and listen to your skin – a philosophy that’s even made it to the brand’s tagline!
The mother-of-two even wants to pass down this ideology to her children since it was passed down to her from her mother. “I’ve seen her use milk on her face every morning, and I think I’d encourage my kids to keep it simple and consistent,” she says.
DO – Befriend New Ingredients
In the past, Mira has talked extensively about ingredients she’s loved (Cica) and hated (Tretonoin). If there’s one thing she’s learnt through her skincare journey, it’s to play with ingredients. Centella, probiotics, gluconolactone, mandelic acid, glycolic acid, and lactic acid, to name a few, are just some of the ingredients she’s experimented with and that are also in her products!
DON’T – Believe Every Viral Ingredient Is Suitable For You
“I learnt that the hard way with Tret, I was left with problems that I was never really trying to solve,” Mira reminiscences. She also believes that, like people, skin can be moody, too. “It can be dry one day, and you can travel, and it’s suddenly oily and breaking out.”
She believes the trick is to have a go-to moisturiser and sunscreen. “And everything else is to target problems and find solutions for them,” she says firmly.
DO – Reapply Sunscreen
“Nobody reapplies, everyone tells you to reapply, but you really don’t!” she laughs, almost exasperatedly.
Like anybody else obsessed with her glowing skin, we were keen to understand the products she always carries.
It turns out that it’s not just one or two but three vital ones. Check them out below!
In a world of 10-step routines, Mira’s ideology is simple, and it seems to have worked wonders for her. Minimalism is key, not just in life but also when it comes to your skin!
