Mira Kapoor always seems to have something up her sleeve. The star wife is a pro at DIYs – from her dadi ke nuske, to stealing items from her husband’s vanity, she’s done it all. She’s also someone who doesn’t gatekeep. If it works for her, she gushes about it on her Instagram and urges her followers to try it out as well.
Like the rest of us, winter has also taken a toll on Mira’s skin. And it’s not heavy-duty creams or moisturisers she relies on to combat it. Instead, it’s an ingredient available in all our kitchens – one we use every single day.
Mira Kapoor’s Milk Face Swipe
Taking to her IG stories, Mira said, “Cold country, central heating & overall dryness of the season has made my skin pretty dry… nothing works better than raw milk a couple of times over. Just add some rose water to mask the smell.”
Raw Milk For The Skin?
My first thought was, ew. Because even before consuming it, we boil the milk right? Sure, lactic acid has a plethora of skincare benefits, but those are available in so many of our products, right? Wrong. Because turns out, there’s so much more to this ingredient than what meets the eye.
- It acts as a natural moisturiser thanks to the presence of fats, proteins, and vitamins. They work together to keep the skin feeling soft and nourished.
- The lactic acid present in milk acts as a natural exfoliator to get rid of dead skin cells. This leaves the skin feeling rejuvenated and looking brighter.
- It also has anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe extremely dry, inflamed or irritated skin and even manages redness and itching.
- Milk is also rich in Vitamins A and D, that fight against damage caused by free radicals. This helps in improved skin texture, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
How To Use It?
To mask the smell of raw milk, Mira adds a couple of drops of rose water to a bowl and tops it off with a few spoons of milk. With the help of a simple cotton pad, she wipes this mixture all over her skin.
And if you’re not into the whole idea of applying milk on your skin, here are a few milk-based products that work just as well.
Dermalogica’s Daily Milkfoliant is a milky formula made from coconut milk and helps get rid of dead skin cells to reveal softer, smoother skin.
The G9SKIN White In Milk Capsule Eye Cream works to hydrate the under-eye area and improve the skin’s elasticity, giving it a blurry effect. It contains milk protein extract that does the trick.
The last one’s a baby care product, but let’s be honest we’ve all used it for ourselves as well. Johnson’s Milk + Rice Cream contains extracts from natural milk mixed with Vitamin E, and leaves the skin feeling baby-soft while giving it a much-needed moisture boost.
I know I’m cringing less at the thought of applying milk to my skin now but I’ll still prefer to try out milk-based products before applying the raw ingredient on my skin.
