Flying High! Meet Anamika Sharma, The Youngest Indian Woman To Bag Professional Skydiving License
It was William Blake who once wrote, “No bird soars too high if she soars with his own wings.” This phrase perfectly sums up the life of Anamika Sharma. The trailblazer who made history by becoming the youngest Indian woman to bag a license for professional sky-diving. We are proud of her for pushing boundaries in the world of adventure sports. Anamika got an ‘A’ category professional United States Parachute Association (USPA) license from the Dubai drop zone and that’s a massive feat.
Anamika first jumped from a height of 10,000 feet when she was just 11 years old and she hasn’t looked back ever since. So far, she has 42 jumps to her name (holy moly) and has executed them using 10 different types of parachutes and six different aircrafts. In an interview, Anamika spoke about what excites her the most about skydiving and she said, “When you are in the air it gives a feeling of being free and once you touch the ground, the happiness and exhilaration is tough to explain.”
Looking Back At Anamika’s Journey
It was the young achiever’s father, Junior Warrant Officer (retd) Ajay Kumar Sharma, who inspired her to begin this journey. Throughout her schooling and college, Anamika’s father continued to coach her and pushed her to excel. While it took some time for her mother to get on board with the idea, the young skydiver kept breaking barriers.
Anamika shared, “After some initial resistance from my mother, I have never looked back, and with the support of my family and best friend of my father, Santosh Nagraj, today I feel so proud of being just the fifth woman professional sky-diver in the country and the youngest to achieve the feat (bagging the USPA licence).”
Not Just Skydiving!
Anamika is pursuing engineering while preparing for international skydiving competitions. NGL, we are in awe of Anamika’s journey and her commitment to her craft. The young achiever has just started her journey and we are she has bright future ahead. Wish you the best, Anamika!
