How do you know he’s the one? Trust us, after 17 hours of an uninterrupted phone call, you definitely would know! Yes, that’s exactly how Mansha knew that Gautam was ‘the one’ for her. The couple belong to traditional Punjabi families and wanted to celebrate their love sans the societal stereotypes or OTT glam. Yes, complete with a cake cutting ceremony, father-daughter dance and a no tears vidaai. It took them some effort getting there, but it all worked out in the end. Captured by PhotozAapki, The Wedding Delight and a few shots from Through the Barrel & Nitish Arora, the bride shared all the wedding deets with us.
How they met…
I was still in college at the time while Gautam had recently quit his job. He was looking for bloggers for his startup company and happened to come across my page. He got in touch and you won’t believe, but we spoke for 17 hours non-stop (no exaggeration) Here I was telling a stranger all about my life. This continued for two weeks and then he asked me out to lunch. The first time we met, I just knew, that we were meant to be. I still remember, it was his 25th birthday bash when it happened. At exactly 12 O’clock, he took me to a quiet spot, got down on one knee and proposed to me. We got engaged soon after and got married on the 24th of December 2017.
On her wedding lehenga
With the wedding outfit, I wanted to avoid the usual reds and pinks. After searching for months, I almost got my lehenga custom-made from Anita Dongre (hands down my favourite designer) but changed my mind when I tried on a blue Sabyasachi outfit. It fit perfectly and I instantly knew that it was the one.
Her ensemble for the rest of the occasions
I wore a green crop top and skirt from Sawan Gandhi for the Mehendi and a custom-made cream and gold Anita Dongre Lehenga for the sangeet. I designed my own bridal shower outfit- a lavender crop top with a plain white skirt and a delicate dupatta.
Story of their Non-Traditional Punjabi Wedding
I grew up across three continents, so I only saw Christian weddings and always wanted mine to be like those white weddings. Given that we’re both Punjabis (me being Sikh), that wasn’t going to happen. But my parents were very supportive of my choices. I chose a sea foam lehenga for my wedding, and accessorized it with a minimal jewellery. Instead of kaleeras, I sported a white rose bouquet. I even chose to ditch the phoolon ki chaadar ceremony and instead, had my bridal entry with Budapest by George Ezra playing in the background. I had my bridesmaids dress up in different shades of pink, sporting a bouquet each and potlis that matched the colour of my lehenga.
On their traditional reception
For the reception, my mum- in-law had told me that she’d be picking out a traditional saree (which is not exactly my style) but ironically, it turned out to be one of my favourites! It was a beautiful Ritu Kumar saree in a vibrant shade of red. For the after party, I wore a backless black, Anita Dongre gown with my favourite Jimmy Choo heels.
The most memorable Father-Daughter dance ever
It was right after the cake cutting and speech ceremony. I even danced with my father to You raise me up and Mamma Mia which was very special. After some hilarious group shots, and the final ‘bouquet throwing’ ritual, Gautam and I ran towards a decorated car, smiling. Believe me, it was the most happy vidai ever.
