Fukrey Actor Manjot Singh Reveals He Was Rejected For Roles Because He’s A Sardar

Manjot Singh, the actor who made his Bollywood debut alongside Abhay Deol in the comedy, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye in 2008 recently spoke up about his tough road to success. At the age of 16, the actor landed his first film, but since then, he confessed it hasn’t been easy to land roles because of his turban.

“I was rejected because I was a Sardar. It is believed that if one wears a turban, one can’t do serious stuff on screen – be it action or drama. I feel extremely hurt as there is a perception that those who wear turban can only make people laugh,” Manjot said while talking to a leading news agency.

He added that the stereotypes for Sardars are hard to break, “Even we do action sequences, fall in love and get hurt, but people feel that they will take a Sardar only when the script demands. I’m trying to break that perception. I feel filmmakers have made this stereotype and only they can break it. But things are better today. I’m getting there by the grace of God. I make sure I put in a lot of hard work in all my projects and choose the right scripts. I don’t want to go wrong with my choice of films. I want my career graph to be balanced and to only rise.”

The actor who has made his mark in the industry with the Fukrey franchise revealed that the third instalment is already being written and will be out soon, “Since it’s a hit franchise, everyone is waiting for Fukrey 3. As far as I know, they have already started writing the film.”

In an earlier interview with a leading newspaper, Manjot even mentioned that Diljit Dosanjh played a huge role in motivating him, “Diljit paaji is opening the door for us with films like Udta Punjab and Phillauri. People loved him everywhere. So I know, even I will get my share of opportunity, and no, I did not think of cutting my hair or removing my turban for a role.” The two will be seen together in the Bollywood film Arjun Patiala, which also stars Varun Sharma, famous for his role in Fukrey, and the Luka Chuppi actress Kriti Sanon.

Here’s hoping we get to see more of Manjot in the long run!
