The Bias Was Always There: Malaika Arora On Being Put Into The ‘Dark Skin Category’

Malaika Arora is certainly an inspiration and a style icon. From her fitness regime to her style, there’s a lot we can learn from the diva. While Malaika has had a few breaks in B-town, she started her career as a VJ. The roles that made Malaika the siren of B-town were undoubtedly her performance in Chaiyya Chaiyya, Munni Badnaam Hui and Gud Naal Ishq Mitha. On Neha Dhupia’s talk show, Malaika recently opened up about how she was a victim to the skin colour bias that was quite prevalent when she first began her career. 

“I came at a time in the business when this whole thing about dark skin, fair skin was so prevalent and I was always put into the dark skin category. So that was always there initially. So, yes that bias was always there”

The actress continued to say that a colour bias was the only thing that the industry held against her. “It was surprising that the only thing they found to roast was my skin tone. I sat through the first segment to figure out whether there would be something else they would find to roast but that was in vain.”

Ever since Malaika and Arbaaz Khan called it quits on their marriage, rumours of Malaika Arora and Arjun Kapoor being a thing have been floating around. While the couple has never officially confirmed their relationship, we see them partying and vacationing together. Even Bollywood celebrities acknowledge them as a couple.

Malaika has been a victim to cyberbullying and trolls ever since these rumours started doing the rounds. Talking about how she deals with all the trolls Malaika said “Personally, I care a damn. I really I mean if I have to say as crudely, I care a f..k. The only thing that comes to mind is that I just feel bad for people out there who talk or behave a certain way. I mean like you gotta be really messed up in your head or you gotta be really low self-esteem or its gotta be some sort of you know for you to actually sit and belittle somebody or degrade somebody or be nasty.”

There have been several rumours of Malaika and Arjun tying the knot too, while the couple hasn’t confirmed (or denied) any speculation, Malaika opened up about what she would classify as her ‘dream wedding’

The actress said to Neha on her talk show that she would like to have a white, beach wedding while wearing an Ellie Saab gown. She spoke about having her wing women, her besties by her side as bridesmaids on her big day. She also said that Vahbiz Mehta, her BFF would be her best woman. Can you imagine how gorgeous Malaika would look in a white, beach wedding with the sunset as her backdrop?
