Ello Ello: We Recounted The Many Make-Up Mishaps With Karisma Kapoor & Raveena Tandon In Andaz Apna Apna

If you grew up in the 90s, like me, you know that Andaz Apna Apna is no less than a phenomenon. Thanks to its unassuming comic timing and a cast with the biggest names of Bollywood, Andaz Apna Apna is not just a fan favourite but a cult classic. But fashion and beauty-wise, poor Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon were both subjected to pretty horrendous mishaps. Don’t remember? Here’s a recap.

While most of the movie plot revolved around failed murder plots and figuring out who Teja was (Teja mein hu, mark idhar hai), the first half was dedicated to Karishma and Raveena swapping identities to find true love (like that ever helps). Raveena comes down to India to get married and is seen sporting a fluorescent pink salwar kameez and curls that never end.

Karishma Kapoor, who was at that time mostly sporting frills is found wearing a rather poufy retro fringe.

While her smokey eyes and bold brows are on-trend, it seems like her make-up artist forgot to blend her blush.

Taking the whole schoolgirl vibe to a different level, she’s also seen with ribbons in her hair.

This, in combination with her love for puffy shoulder dresses (and her dialogue delivery), made it hard to take her seriously.

And when night fell, Karishma Kapoor matched her pink nails with a pink lipstick while she wore… you guessed it, a pink nightgown. We’re cringing as we watch the meme!

Her counterpart, Raveena Tandon who scored higher on outfit fails, also seemed to be going high on dark colours. It makes us wonder if both leading ladies had the same make-up artist. *facepalm*

Who knew she was going to dial up the shimmer in her upcoming film, Mohra?

I know we all have a special place for headbands and wigs in our hearts, but I feel none of these trends should make a comeback.

Thankfully, Andaz Apna Apna’s charm wasn’t in its styling but in its goofy humour, so even now I feel like going home and watching it again!
