Kiara Advani pulled off an extremely bold scene in the movie Lust Stories. Remember the one where she climaxes as the title track of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham plays in the background? The scene shocked a lot of people, but no one could deny that Kiara played her part really well.
In the film, Kiara played the role of a newly-married woman, who was unhappy with her sexual life and wanted to take control of it.
The actress recently appeared on a chat and revealed that she went for the movie with her grandmother. She said, “My grandmother had come to stay with me, and the film had just released on Netflix. Of course, I had seen it and my parents had seen it. Everyone loved it and all of that.”
However, she told that her parents were unfazed by the orgasm scene, “They knew everything when I had said yes to the film. So, they were informed. I prepared them.”
Kiara’s grandmom is Anglo-Indian so she failed to understand some references in the film, “She’s part British, so there were certain jokes that she didn’t get. She was reading it with the subtitles. While the rest of the audience was laughing, there were a lot of reactions of the people watching. When my grandmother was watching it, she was watching it with a straight face, like deadpan.”
Kiara also shared the piece of advice Karan Johar shared with her before filming the masturbation scene, “Karan said, ‘Don’t try to do it in a funny way, try to play it in a realistic way. It is an awkward situation in the film and I am trying to cover up what has happened.’ The reality in the scene ends up looking funny.”
Kiara also spoke about the relevance of talking about women’s sexuality on screen. The actress said, “I feel now it is becoming normal and natural and people are talking about it, eventually they will think, why make a big deal of it? It will take time. Not every person is going to be ok. For instance, kissing scenes were considered a huge deal but not today.”
She further added, “Everybody is aware and exposed to and is educated enough. As long as nothing is out of context then it is fine to show it in films. It is good that everything is being shown instead of forcefully trying to hide it. At the end of the day, lust is a by-product of love.”
On the work front, Kiara is gearing up for Kabir Singh opposite Shahid Kapoor. Helmed by Sandeep Vanga, the film is slated to release on June 21, 2019.
