Kareena Kapoor’s Honest Take On Sexism & Ageism In Bollywood Is Surprising & We’re All Ears
Kareena Kapoor is one Bollywood actress who never minces her words and we love her for it. Over the last two decades, Bebo has proved that she is only getting better with age. Recently, the actress opened up on the issue of ageism and sexism.
In an interview, Kareena claimed that she feels the issue of ageism and sexism is mostly fodder for social media conversation. The actress said, “I think it is only on social media not actually in life because it makes a good topic of discussion. If you are talented you’ll get work if you are looking good and if you are being yourself then you’ll get work.”
Bebo added that it is all about confidence, and these days people have the opportunity to play different roles without letting their age come in the way. “Age is just a number, people are doing different characters, you are as old as you look and that’s what you have to go by.”
NGL, we love Kareena’s confidence and her take on the issue of ageism and sexism in the film industry. While we are glad that Bebo has never faced an issue while working, many actresses haven’t been so lucky. In the past, many popular stars have spoken about how they were subject to casual sexism while working.
Recently, Alia Bhatt also spoke on the issue in an interaction with a leading daily and shared, “I think from time to time I have faced that–casual sexism. Many times I would not notice it. When I think back now because I am so much more aware of it, it just makes so much sense as ‘oh my god that was such a sexist comment, or that I was a subject of extreme misogyny at that moment. That’s why now I am so much more sensitive.”
Everyone has a right to opinionate based on their journey and experiences, but we need to remember others might not have had the same privileges. So, while we are immensely proud of the way Kareena has remained untouched by ageism and sexism, the issues are still a harsh reality of Bollywood.
