Bollywood’s Bebo, Kareena Kapoor Khan has never shied away from expressing herself. From appearing on Koffee With Karan with her then-boyfriend to making it the next season with her husband, she has been honest, sometimes brutally so, about what life is about. She tackled motherhood despite the spotlight and didn’t shy away from wearing what she wanted, when she wanted. And now is doubling up as a supermom and a talented actress with movies like Veere Di Wedding.
On her 38th birthday, we’ve decided to make a handbook of Kareena living her best life with her most memorable interviews. From when she first sported a baby bump on the ramp to when she spoke about her perfect man, read to know the way to live life Bebo style.
Kareena Kapoor & Her First Love
“Please, I am not distracted by crowds, heat or big names. Only food can distract me.”
That sounds like a true Punjabi girl!
On Finding The Perfect Man
“Those elusive qualities that no man has – loyalty and fidelity. You can try and convince me otherwise, but it won’t work. I know it, all men are like that. You just have to accept the fact. You’d be kidding yourself if you don’t believe this. Looks are important, but he also has to have a good voice, nice eyes and a sensitive heart, of course. He should also be very romantic because I’m a really romantic girl.”
We hope Saif was taking notes when this interview came out, back in 2004.
When She Was Accused Of Having An Affair With Hrithik Roshan
“Please give me a break. I am neither besotted with married men nor will I have affairs with them. Married men would be detrimental to my career. Ask the producers, directors, and distributors why all of them are hell-bent on signing Duggu (Hrithik Roshan) and me together. Quite obviously because we are a hot pair.”
Thank God this pair died down post Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon!
On How Spending Time With Saif Helped Her Grow
“He has got a spectacular taste in music and that has impressed me majorly. I was into jazz and blues. But Saif has introduced me to hard and soft rock music. Today, I can appreciate a Dire Straits and a Led Zeppelin, as much as I appreciate other genres. Besides music, over the last five years, I have learned from him the way to appreciate and choose better roles even if it is the smallest one. He says the issue with us, actors, is that we always look for the main role.”
I wish she had thought of this before rejecting Kal Ho Na Ho… though Preity Zinta was a great fit.
Making The First Move & Getting Who She Wanted
“He (Saif Ali Khan) will never make the first move. I was the one who kind of pushed all the right buttons, and plus when I made the first move he was like I can’t believe that Kareena Kapoor is doing this. It was like an entire building has crumbled on his head.”
Hear that ladies? Never be afraid to go out and get your man.
On Walking The Ramp With That Perfect Baby Bump
“It feels great. Pregnancy is not an illness. Now, I have to just walk the ramp. It’s something I love doing and I am never going to stop myself from doing what my heart wants. I know it has just been 46 days (since Taimur was born) and many might look at it as an excuse to hide, just because they aren’t in the best shape. But I am not one to get conscious with skinny models around. What I am going to do requires courage and I have the confidence to pull it off. In India, women are conditioned to hide themselves away until they get back to the ‘right’ size. I feel it’s fine to be out there. Everyone knows I have just had a baby. I may not be size zero right now but as long as I look great, I can take that walk.”
Hear, hear! Pregnant women are gorgeous and can rock anything they wear.
Motherhood And All Its Glory
“It has been an amazing transformation because whenever you become a mother, it obviously comes naturally to you. Everything happens organically and I think that’s exactly what’s happened with me. I was looking forward to this phase in my life. And it is the most special part of my life right now. I don’t think I have ever been or looked happier.”
And I don’t think we’ve ever been happier since we set our eyes on Taimur!
Kareena Kapoor As A Working Mother
“I want to do one film at a time. Saif and I are trying to maintain a work-life balance with Taimur. When he’s working, I need to be at home to take care of Taimur and when I’m working, he tries to be around.”
Now that’s what an ideal couple looks like. Nice to see a Bollywood actress speak up about sharing responsibilities.
Giving Birth To An Adorable Star
“We just want him to lead as normal a life as possible. That’s the most important thing for him. I’d like the paparazzi to not shoot pictures of him every moment. I don’t want his life to be documented. He is only 17 months old, once or twice is enough, but not the constant badgering.”
Motherhood looks so good on her!
Through all her phases, she has been an inspiration. Truly a Geet in real life, keep staying true to yourself. Happy birthday, Kareena!
