From appearing with a gorgeous baby bump on Koffee with Karan season 5 to walking the ramp less than two months post giving birth, Kareena Kapoor Khan broke all pregnancy-stereotypes that existed in the entertainment industry. She continued with her life as usual, never shied away from the limelight, and did not back out from any work commitment. In fact, she walked the ramp for a fashion show in less than two months after her first pregnancy and said during an interview, “I feel it’s fine to be out there. Everyone knows I have just had a baby. I may not be size zero right now but as long as I look great, I can take that walk.”
Well, it might be quite common for us to watch our favourite actresses work during their pregnancies now, but frankly, it wasn’t the case earlier until Bebo changed that. And thank god for that! So it comes as no surprise that the Veere Di Wedding actress has been working throughout her second pregnancy as well. She recently wrapped up Lal Singh Chaddha with co-star Aamir Khan. She shared a picture on her Instagram handle and wrote, “And all journeys must come to an end. Today, I wrapped my film Laal Singh Chaddha… tough times… the pandemic, my pregnancy, nervousness but absolutely nothing could stop the passion with which we shot, with all safety measures of course.”
During an interview with a digital publication, Kareena expressed her plans of working through her pregnancy and revealed that there were actually no plans at all! She said, “No, there has never been any plan that I have to do this or that. It’s just that I have never been that kind of a person who would sit at home and say, ‘Now I want to put my feet up’. I am doing what I want to do. Working—whether it’s during my pregnancy or post-delivery—has been a point to just say that when has anyone ever said that pregnant women can’t work?”
While there’s no compulsion for would-be mothers to not work (unless it’s advised medically) but it is generally the stereotypes attached with pregnancy that make women hesitant. There have been many instances when pregnant women and new moms like Sameera Reddy, Shilpa Shetty and Mahi Vij have been trolled for their pregnant and postpartum body. While they have given it back to these utterly ridiculous trolls, the actresses have also explained that body transformation during and after pregnancy is the most natural thing ever. Honestly, it’s high time these trolls accept the fact and get over their obsession with the ‘perfect bod’!
Kareena also added that staying active through pregnancy has health benefits. She said, “In fact, the more active you are, the healthier the baby is and the happier the mother is. After delivery, too, once you feel fit enough, one should do what they feel like doing, and try to balance it out between giving time to the child as well as your work and yourself. I have always been very proud of being a working mother.”
Bebo also added that the support she receives from her husband Saif Ali Khan is also the reason she’s able to do what she does. She added, “I think that he does understand in a way, especially when it comes to working women—be it a mother, sister, wife or daughter. He understands and respects working women a lot. He gives us the space to do exactly what we want. I think a happy woman is the one who is doing what she loves the most. I am glad that he understands that, and I believe that it comes from his mother.”
Here’s wishing the soon-to-be mom all the good health in the world and meanwhile, we hope she keeps dazzling us with her impeccable maternity style.
