“You Absolutely Original Genius” Karan Johar Responds To Troll Who Ridiculed His Sexuality
Filmmaker Karan Johar has been quite ambiguous about his sexual orientation, never quite conforming to his homosexuality. However, trolls on Twitter clearly don’t know what it means to let someone be! A Twitter user targetted the filmmaker and tried to laugh at his sexuality, tweeting, “Karan johar k life pe ek movie banani chahiye (A film should be made on Karan Johar’s life). KARAN JOHAR: the gay.”
Karan had the most iconic response to being trolled. Not taking the mean tweet to heart, the director said, “You absolutely original genius! Where have you been hiding all this while??? Thank you for existing and emerging as the most prolific voice on Twitter today.”
Karan Johar openly discussed his indifference towards trolls recently, focussing on how he went from getting upset and angry to just being amused. In an interview with Arbaaz Khan on his chat show, Pinch, he said, “Initially, when I used to get it (trolled), I used to deal with it by being upset and angry. Then it went into a state of indifference, and now I am in a state of glorious amusement. Every morning I wake up to abuse, and it amuses me.”
He admitted that it affects him when people think his sexuality is a disease, “It is my prerogative to talk about my life, my sexuality, my orientation. It is up to me. What I have a problem with is that there’s a level of homophobia and that really bothers me because that’s to me is sick. I mean you can talk about what you think my sexuality is, that is your prerogative, but if you are commenting and making gay sound bad that’s when I have a problem because that means you have a sick mind, an uninformed mind, and an uneducated thought process.”
Karan Johar also went on to talk about how criticism towards his children is something he gets bothered with. “I am a little sensitive about my babies and when they start saying things about them, that really bothers me. It’s a new age. How do you know that I don’t have a mother and a father in me that I can give my child the love of both parents,” he admitted.
Social media can be quite harsh, but people like Karan Johar prove that it can be a safe space only if you learn to ignore those that don’t matter.
Kudos to that response!
