The COVID-19 lockdown hit several industries. TV actors were also reeling under the impact of pandemic-induced lockdown. During the pandemic, many celebs opened up about mental health issues and how the pandemic led to acute financial stress. In fact, some TV celebs also took up odd jobs to earn their bread and butter. Now, in a recent interview, singer Kanika Kapoor opened up about how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the artists in the music industry.
The singer revealed that it was very tough as many artists did not have any daily income. She shared that this forced them to start a conversation about ownership of their music. “It was very tough because there was no daily income, and that’s what an artist depends on. It made us think about the fact that all of the rights of our music are with a music company. I think it is high time that musicians start owning some of their publishing,” said Kanika.
Calling it a sad situation, the singer revealed that lyricists, composers and musical players in the industry were hugely impacted because of the lockdonw. “If there’s a situation like this, like the pandemic, where they don’t have their wages because of no live shows, there’s nothing to do. They have nothing to fall back on in situations like this, and that is sad,” the Jugni Ji singer added.
The Baby Doll singer had also faced flak for flouting the COVID norms in March last year after she returned from London. Kanika was trolled when people found that she had attended two family gatherings, instead of self-quarantining for 14 days. Days after the event, the singer had tested positive for COVID-19. In fact, the Uttar Pradesh government had also filed a case against Kanika for flouting the norms.
Recalling the merciless trolling, Kanika said that it was rather shocking to see people reacting without knowing the truth. The singer shared that it was bad and mean to see that people felt the need to troll someone despite knowing that someone is unwell. “I hope people learn from it and understand what they say and what they mean. I really hope that after this pandemic, they would all get a better perspective and be more helpful,” said the singer.
