Kangana Ranaut Looks Unrecognisable As Indira Gandhi In Emergency’s First Promo & We’re Hella Impressed

There are so many shades to Kangana Ranaut—she doesn’t think twice before speaking her mind, is unapologetic about her life choices and is one of the most gifted actors in India. So, when we got to know that she’ll be playing the role of India’s first and only woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, in her next venture, we were pumped.

After waiting for months, Kangana finally shared the first teaser of her next directorial movie Emergency and our jaws are on the floor ATM. In a starched cotton saree and trademark Mrs Gandhi spectacles, the actress looks unrecognisable.

Kangana shared the promo and penned, “Presenting #EmergencyFirstLook! Portraying one of the most powerful and controversial women in the history of the world…#Emergency shoot begins”.

NGL, we are in awe of Kangana’s transformation for the film. For us, the most impressive part of this promo was how the actress moulded her voice and mannerism to ace the look of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. All we can say right now is — bravo!

In an earlier interview, Kangana opened up about her decision to make a film on Indira Gandhi and her decision to implement the Emergency in India during the 1970s. The Queen actress shared, “Emergency reflects one of the most important periods in Indian political history which changed the way we view power and that’s why I decided to tell this story. Moreover, playing a public figure on the screen is always a challenge because one has to get the look, the characteristics and the persona right. I spent a significant amount of time researching the subject and once I felt I had enough ammunition, I commenced the film’s shoot.”

While the actress has been at pains to say that the film is not the former Prime Minister’s biography, the promo suggests otherwise. NGL, we are immensely excited to see more of Kangana as Indira Gandhi!
