Justin Trudeau has been exceptionally open about his support when it comes to the LGBTQ community in Canada. But what surprised us was that his knowledge and acceptance of the same in India. It’s unfortunate that our country is constantly ignoring the LGBTQ community and our laws don’t acknowlege their rights. But the Canadian Prime Minister made it a point to invite and interact with Sushant Divgikar, an Indian actor, and model, famous for being crowned Mr Gay World 2014. He later participated in the reality TV show, Bigg Boss Season 8.
When asked by a leading newspaper about how Trudeau reacted when he met him, he said, “He actually recognised me and said, ‘Hey, finally, Mr Gay India. It’s lovely to meet you. I have heard a lot about you.’ He looked like a prince from an Indian fairytale. He is absolutely gorgeous.”
Of course, he is! The man has an entire country to run and yet he never forgets the people who matter to the world. “He was so warm that I actually felt we were not welcoming him but it was actually him who was welcoming us into his massive heart of love and acceptance, which is fabulous,” said Sushant who has now taken over the Mr Gay World India franchise and will hold the pageant annually in Mumbai. The much-loved leader encouraged Sushant, praising him for his active participation in the pageant.
This brief interaction with the Prime Minister left Sushant in awe. “I want the world leaders to be as open-minded and as progressive as him,” Sushant added, hoping India would one day be more accepting of the pageant and the LGBTQ community.
