The film fraternity lost two of the most celebrated actors in a matter of two days – Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor. The former passed away at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on April 29, 2020 at the age of 54. After battling a fight with neuroendocrine tumour for over two years, he was admitted to the hospital on April 28 and was under observation for a colon infection.
A day after Irrfan’s death, his wife Sutapa Sidkar took to Facebook to share a throwback picture of the two with an emotional caption. Sutapa can be seen hugging the Angrezi Medium actor in the unseen photo and posted it with the caption, ‘I have not lost I have gained in every which way’.
As soon as the news of Irrfan’s untimely demise broke out, Twitter and Instagram were flooded with messages paying tribute to the ace Bollywood actor.

Later, Sutapa released an official statement and wrote a heartwarming post for Irrfan. She began by saying that she cannot feel alone when millions of people are grieving with them and taking it as their personal loss. Sutapa also talked about the way the Slumdog Millionaire actor led his life. “The only thing I have a grudge against him is; he has spoiled me for life. His strive for perfection doesn’t let me settle for ordinary (things) in anything. There was a rhythm which he always saw in everything, even in cacophony and chaos, so I have learnt to sing and dance to the music of that rhythm, even with my tone-deaf voice and two left feet”, she wrote.
Sutapa shared that the family is planning to plant his favourite tree on the spot where he was buried. Calling the two-and-a-half hour journey as ‘beautiful, overwhelming, painful and exciting’, Sutapa also thanked the doctors who helped them throughout.
Sutapa wrote that she sees her family in a boat with her sons – Babil and Ayaan – paddling it forward and Irrfan guiding them. “I see my little family, in a boat, with both my sons Babil and Ayaan, paddling it forward, with Irrfan guiding them “wahan nahi, yahan se modo” but since life is not cinema and there are no retakes, I sincerely wish my children sail this boat safely with their father’s guidance in mind and rockabye through the storm”, she wrote.
Meanwhile, the actor’s son Babil also took to his Instagram to express his gratitude towards all the condolence messages he received. Here’s what he wrote:
